Took about 2.5 min on my DSL connection to download. The thunderhill movie would not play immediately. QT 5 tried to play the file and choked on it after the data was received. I was able to copy a shortcut from your ftp site to my desktop and tell Win 2K to play it using WMP and it played fine. Here are my three comments: 1) You might try using a remote microphone (say under the floor mat in the back seat) this will let us hear your tires squeal and your motor scream with hearing the wind noise. 2) I think you can take turn 8 at Thunderhill faster than you think you can :-) 3) I really like that you DID NOT downshift to second gear for turn 5. Having driven both of these tracks numerous times, I will comment that you are an accomplished and silky smooth driver (that also makes for great video)! But, in the been-there-done-that spirit, it takes big brass-ones not to lift for turn 8, but I'm certain you can do it! Mel -----Original Message----- From: Andrew E. #3. [E36M3] Going bald! Help needed. - from twisty M3

Date: Mon, 07 May 2001 12:59:52 -0700 From: "twisty M3" <twistym3@hotmail.com> Subject: [E36M3] Going bald! Help needed. I have to make an emergency trip in the next day or two with a round trip of aproximately 600 miles (Ventura, CA to Las Vegas, NV and back). I have new tires (already shipped) on order that should arrive tomorrow or Wednesday. If they arrive tomorrow, no worries, as I have to leave late tomorrow night. My question is regarding the life span of bald tires. My S02 PPs on the rear are bald (in direct sunlight, you can no longer see the continuous center tread block). They grip very well now, and there are no cords showing anywhere, but my instinct tells me that 600 miles worth of desert driving (90°+) wouldn't be all that safe (even though there are basically no "real" turns on the whole trip (still plenty of heat and a bit of friction). Aside from some unexpected rainstorm, anyone know the relative safety margin of bald tires on a drive like this? I suppose I could just wait until Wednesday and drive up in the middle of the day and back home that night, but I'd rather avoid 10 hours of driving in one day. Thanks! #4. What's wrong with my nose? - from Mel Silva

Date: Mon, 7 May 2001 15:16:27 -0500 From: "Mel Silva" <mel.silva@pdq.net> Subject: What's wrong with my nose? List, I have an odd sort of question about my new M3. I had thought that an E36-M3 was either a coupe or a sedan and that was about it as far as differences. Imagine my surprise when I was cleaning car in the garage (it had been raining) and I noticed that my air dam was not what I expected to see. I thought all E36-M3 had the same air dam with the rectangular opening below the kidneys and an air "splitter" at the bottom "lip" of the air dam. Mine has this "grid work" in the center of the rectangle with three horizontal "beams" running though the rectangle. I have created a temporary web page with example pictures at http://www.geocities.com/melsilva/M3_nez_pierce.html . Neither of these are my car, but I had to scour the web to find a picture of an air dam that looked like mine. I'm distraught. It makes my car look like it has a mouth full of braces! Is this an option from BMW? Was this added by a sadistic dealer or some evil body shop? What is the story with this air dam? The funny thing is, I didn't notice it right away. It took a day of looking at the car before I realized it was "deformed". Thanks, Mel

Do you by any chance have a ton of wood plastered all over the interior surfaces? Leather padding on the door panels? Electric seats? Every other trinket imaginable? Than you've got a legitimate lux-packaged M3. The other possbility is that your PO had left the cross-mashed airdamn on the side of the road and for some reason repalced it with what you have. alex f
