Must have been the "new" $1.91/gal gasolines around here. Tried several different brands but got the same pings. Anyone expericenced this problem? I'm thinking of putting the stock chip back in. anthony

Try doing the following: 1) Go to your favourite repair shop and ask for the "Decarb" treatment. 2) If (1) doesn't work, check your spark plugs. 3) If (2) doesn't work, switch back to the stock chip and auction the JC chip on Ebay. You may also try running "colder" plugs. Bora 95 M3 running AA chip which also pings but not as bad as the JC chip. ps. If all you hear is a sizzle under full throttle, this may be (according to JC) OK. > From: Anthony Le <anthony.le@wcom.com> > Reply-To: Anthony Le <anthony.le@wcom.com> > Date: Tue, 8 May 2001 10:43:05 -0500 > To: E36M3 <e36m3@bmw-m.net> > Subject: [E36M3] Dallas gas sucks. > > Date: Tue, 08 May 2001 10:40:31 -0500 > From: Anthony Le <anthony.le@wcom.com> > Subject: Dallas gas sucks. > > > My 95 M3 /w Conforti chip is pinging very badly on acceleration. #3. 1997 mesh grill and darth vader seats - from Marc.S.Edwards@QuestDiagnostics.com

UPDATE So, let me get this straight (non-poof inference included), the grid work under the bumper is a painted bit that is secured to the airdam with twist on nuts? And it can be "unbolted", as it were your advise noted below, from the airdam? That's too easy. I thought I would have to replace the entire bumper cover (hence my reference to "paint")! So, btw, what is a "Vader" seat? Mel Mel; The proper stock color for the mesh grill on 1996-1999 cars is black. So, you don't have to worry about paint unless the grill comes in some other funky color. The 1995 cars had body colored mesh grills. The lux package grills have always been the same color as the body of the car. You can also add the "non-lux" air dam lip to the front of the car. The lux cars did not have the same front air-dam lip as the non-lux cars. Darth Vader seats are the seats that came in the non-lux 2 door E36M3s only. These have the "wings" that come down the side that also move up and down to support the shoulders as you move the head rest up and down. Check out a non-lux 2 door some time. The darth vader seats never were available in the 4 door E36M3s. The darth vader seats were also not available in the M3 convertible. Thanks, Marc 1995 M3 LTW with 325is sport seats with anthracite/hurricane cloth, the stock seats that are in the LTW

Date: Tue, 8 May 2001 08:54:51 -0700 From: Marc.S.Edwards@QuestDiagnostics.com Subject: David Tow and door molding David; You can't fix the lip on the door molding that holds the black modling to the little white plastic piece that is inserted into the hole in the door. It won't hold because there is a lot of force on it. The best thing to do is replace it or live with it. It doesn't cost that much actually because I bought a new door molding for just the reason you described. However, I don't know what I paid for it. It was well below 100$ though. Thanks, Marc 1995 M3 regular with newer door molding

Anthony, All gas in DFW is oxygenated and pings. 92-93 octane gas pings less, but relatively few gas stations carry it. Look around and you'll spot them. Surprisingly, I also get very little if any pinging from Sam's club 91 octane. Go figure. > I'm thinking of putting the stock chip back in. No need, just take a road trip and fill up away from the metroplex. 50+ miles (don't know the exact threshold) should be far enough to clear the oxygenated gas zone. Lone Start Chapter autoXs are great for this purpose. Arrive to Mineral Wells with less than a quarter of gas left in the tank and fill up before and after the event. In fact, we have an event coming up next Saturday, the 19th. Check out the particulars at www.lscautox.org. Hope to see you there, alex f

I'm willing to set up the intial schedule. If you want to get in on it, let me know off list. I have a few names already and will build a mailing list if it gets to be a decent number of listers. I'm going to initially peg this, since somebody has too, at the Friday closest to the 15th of every month. So the first lunch will be on the 18th. Site to be determined this Friday depending on respondents. Sorrento Valley or UTC seem to make sense, we'll see. I'm open to specific suggestions. If you want in, please respond and give me some idea of your physical location. I'm in the Tech Center, home of the giant phallus :) Jim
