I added a "font view" One Lap of Laguna Seca video to our ftp site ftp.pumpkininc.com. The rear view (shot out the back window of Sherman Koo's M5) was rename LSecaOneLapRearView.mpg. You'll note that the brightness and color are much better than the Thunderhill video -- that's because the LS video is "framed" the way the RaceCam expects it to be framed. But the rear-view mirror is really annoying -- therefore I plan to have the RaceCam recalibrated for the framing I used at Thunderhill ... -- ______________________________________ Andrew E. #3. Lux package availability and M contour wheels - from Marc.S.Edwards@QuestDiagnostics.com

Date: Tue, 8 May 2001 15:38:47 -0700 From: Marc.S.Edwards@QuestDiagnostics.com Subject: Lux package availability and M contour wheels Group; I am trying to find out a couple of quick details: 1. Was an automatic available in the 1996 M3? 2. When did the lux package stop being available as a package and the individual components were orderable separately? 3. Were the M contour wheels a no-cost option at some point or did they always have to come with some other package? Were they randomly put on some cars that the dealers ordered but buyers who ordered in advance could order either M double spoke II or M contours? Thanks, Marc 1995 M3 LTW working on M3 stuff available

Okay, but this still doesn't address the issue of why BMW would put staggered _wheel_ sizes on the LTW with same-sized tires on it. Perhaps they intended to put staggered tires on them, but MXX3s in a 245/40ZR17 size weren't available in 1995? Just curious.... -rb >Date: Fri, 04 May 2001 17:05:58 -0500 >From: Neil Maller <neil.maller@gte.net> >Subject: Re: Staggered Wheels/Tires... > >on 5/4/01 11:22 AM, "Ron Buchalski" <rbuchals@hotmail.com> wrote: > >> >>I also know that the '96 and later models came with 7.5x17 wheels shod >>with 225/45ZR17 tires in front, and 8.5x17 wheels shod with 245/40ZR17 >>wheels in the rear. The M Contours were on Luxury Package M3s, when that package was offered. They were a no-cost option after that package was discontinued (whether they were during the Luxury package run, I'm not sure). Hope that helps, Jim Bassett 1998 M3/4 - w/no-cost-option M Contour wheels

#7. Differential vent hole and diff fluid - from Marc.S.Edwards@QuestDiagnostics.com

Date: Tue, 8 May 2001 16:04:16 -0700 From: Marc.S.Edwards@QuestDiagnostics.com Subject: Differential vent hole and diff fluid From: "Ron Buchalski" <rbuchals@hotmail.com> Dave, The differential and transmission both have a vent on the top, to relieve pressure build-up inside the diff and transmission as things heat up inside. The cap on the vent floats up and down, so the pressure pushes it open, and the cap drops back down when the pressure is relieved. Is it possible that your diff was overfilled? Ron >From: dHoleman@spooze.com >Last weekend at Road America I found that my diff was leaking. Upon >further inspection it appears that fluid is comming from the top. Dave; My diff also leaked after some hot laps at Watkins' Glen. This had never happened before to either my regular M3 or my LTW that I knew of. This was after 35 minute sessions on the full track. I had changed the diff fluid myself for the first time and probably overfilled the rear diff. At some point it stopped leaking I suppose after the heating of the fluid wasn't enough to cause it to overflow. I didn't add any more fluid and proceeded to continue in the second day at the Glen and then Lime Rock and Summit Point within a couple of months and then a year of street driving or canyon driving in California (a move East to West intervened). I did not have any problems that I know of with the diff after my leaking/venting problem occurred. My fluid was changed late last year again and everything is fine and no leakage after a track weekend at Buttonwillow. Don't know to tell you to worry or not. I just know my experience. The fluid that leaked for me was the Redline stuff. Perhaps just taking the top plug out and checking the level by slipping your finger in (hehehe, insert imagery here...) and then topping up? Hope this helps, Marc 1995 M3 LTW with no leaking problem now

No, it sure doesn't. Who knows why they did that - they could more easily and cheaply have put the same size rims all round. Weird. Neil 96 M3
