More rim under the tire. I've also heard it was a high level decision not to put staggered tires on M's going to the US. Who knows? I just order 225/45-17 for the front. We'll see how different they are than the 235/40 were on the front with turn in and understeer. Still keeping the 245/40 in the rear. Jonathan 95 red M3 with stock LTW wheel option.

Re: >Motul 600, Super Blue, Type 200 etc. Another good fluid is the new Valvoline synthetic stuff -- costs about 1/3 of Ate Super Blue, and its boiling points are only a little bit less than Super Blues / Type 200's. Note that this is not a _silicone_ product, and it is DOT3 / DOT4 compatible. -- ______________________________________ Andrew E. Kalman, Ph.D. aek@pumpkininc.com

Terrific dry and surprisingly competent in the wet stuff. I'd definitely buy them again- what a bargain! The tire choices are as follows: Bridgestone PP S-02 ($173 each) Yokohoma AVS Sport ($162 each) Yokohoma AVS Intermediate ($101 each) Bridgestone Potenza RE730 ($148 each) Is it worth it to spend a little more and get the PP S-02's? I had the AVS intermediates on the car and they are an ok tire especially for the price, but I don't have too much to compare it to. I had Pirelli P zeros and while they stuck well, they had almost no life on them. Just want some opinions. Thanks, Brent Parks Wounded "1 BAD M3" _____ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! #6. staggered LTW wheels - from Reid Conti

Date: Wed, 9 May 2001 10:18:25 -0700 (PDT) From: Reid Conti <reid@conti.net> Subject: staggered LTW wheels I read on the unofficial m3 page that the Euro M3 also had staggered wheels in .. at least 97 I believe. So it looks like the staggered sizes are not just US, maybe all 95's were same and 96+ here and in europe were staggered. Also, the better contact patch with wider tires is a myth. Physics tells us that, given a certain air pressure and car weight, etc, the contact patch will be the same size. On a wider tire, the contact patch is wide and short. On a narrow (say, 195 series) tire, the contact patch is narrow (duh), but it's much longer, so the size is the same. A wider tire has the following advantages: Straight-line acceleration (deceleration too, I guess) stability more stability (Grip, too?) in cornering. - reid > Date: Wed, 9 May 2001 13:43:29 -0400 > From: "Jonathan Evans" <jonathanevans@hotmail.com> > Subject: staggered LTW wheels > > A wider rim in the rear must give at least a slight better contact patch. > More rim under the tire. > > I've also heard it was a high level decision not to put staggered tires on > M's going to the US. Well, it looks like the videos were sufficiently popular, and sufficiently large, that the downloads exceeded our monthly allotted bandwidth. Therefore they'll not be available until I get that fixed / find a new home for them. Sorry, -- ______________________________________ Andrew E. Kalman, Ph.D. aek@pumpkininc.com

I ended up replacing the pads and rotors (at 32K), even though the old pads still had about 1/3-1/2 left. The brake pedal feels good now - very firm and linear. He paid 5k over the sticker price. When being asked how he liked the car, he said he loved the acceleration and refinement of the car. He, however, also expressed regret of selling his 95 E36; he missed the sounds and the light weight feel of the old car.
