Peter, I will agree with you that RE730s have less dry grip than MXX3s, but wet? I don't know many tires that have worse wet grip than MXX3s. In comparison, RE730s are absolutely awesome both in the wet. A had them on during a rainy track weekend last fall and has a ball when instructors with Yoko 032Rs had to stay in the pits. alex f

Ooh, just found a non hinged "screw adjust" strut tower brace from www.motorworks.com Rocky Mountain Motorworks. Anyone have experiences with this?? It seems as though it's bent around the engine, haven't seen any like that. Jonathan 95 M3

I've only ever seen 3 non-hinged E36 front strut brace implementations: BMW Motorsport Pricey and hard to find; needs expensive spigot nuts (but replacements are available from JT Designs, see below); only fits non-ASC+T cars. UUC Strut Barbarian I have one of these. May be a bit over-built, but a solid bit of work. No longer listed at <http://www.uucmotorwerks.com/> so presumably NLA. JT Designs Very nicely engineered and made, low profile. No longer listed at <http://www.jt-designs.com/> so presumably NLA. Anyone??? Neil 96 M3 - UUC Strut Barbarian

The irony of it all is that the more you spend on tires, the shorter time they last. The more expensive tires tend to be made of softer compounds, so you'll only burn through them faster. Those RE730's are a treadwear of 300! You have to be driving them pretty hard to be burning through them so quickly. That's the cost of a powerful car, so take it with a grain of salt. Autocross in the Bay Area tends to rip tires up (lots of gravelly surfaces), so I started running a seperate set of auto-x tires if only to not kill my street tires. If you run frequently, and the surfaces are similar, I'd consider doing the same. > Staggered setup, no rotating. Fronts last a LOT longer. Perfectly even > wear on the rears. If you want to get maximum wear out of your tires, replace your front wheels with a matching set from the rears. I run 17x8's all the way around with 245/40-17's. I make a point of rotating my tires with every oil change, and I get much more life out of them that way. -peterg ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This message was sent using HiSpeed Technologies Webmail. http://www.hispeed.com

#6. Coilover spring rate poll - from Bill Lackey
Top
Date: Thu, 10 May 2001 08:55:27 -0700 From: "Bill Lackey" <btlackey@hotmail.com> Subject: Coilover spring rate poll I would like to poll those with coilover suspensions to see what spring rates they are running, and how they like it. Basic Questions: 1) Rates 2) Handling 3) Ride quality 4) Dampers Used If I can get a big enough list I will post it. Could be a helpful roadmap I think. Personally I have tried 375F/450R and 300F/350R with GC ARD dampers. The first produced mild understeer, the second mild oversteer. The second is too soft in the rear. I can carry the front inside wheel out of corners like you wouln’t believe. Good show though. My head isn't exactly on straight right now, so flubs like this have been common for a few days. I meant 2-3 mm of pad left, not 20. Anyone out there able to compare stock Jurids/Textars to the equivilant Pagid pad? Opinions? Thanks. #9. Sunroof and Fuse Box - from John Van Houten

Date: Thu, 10 May 2001 11:18:35 -0500 From: "John Van Houten" <jvanhouten@ix.netcom.com> Subject: Sunroof and Fuse Box Anyone know how to seperate the sunroof panel from the cassette? From looking Bentley and the ETK, I not clear. The sunroof cassette is out of the car. Second question--how is the fuse box attached and are the connectors in the back removable? I need to move the fuse box inside the car so the cage builder can get to the strut tower and it will make the rest of the wire removal that has to be done much easier. Sorry for the cross post and thanks, John

It's based on previous made in USA version. I've seen and used them both. There are no discernible quality differences, and in fact, there are a number of enhanced features on the new model. In this case, I believe the design being manufactured is more important than the manufacturing origin. Rob Norwalk Raytheon ID Systems Fort Wayne, IN
