#2. Q's about Ground-Control. Also, any NE audiophiles around? - from Scott Yu

Date: Thu, 10 May 2001 18:13:42 -0700 From: "Scott Yu" <scott@ditherdog.com> Subject: Q's about Ground-Control. Also, any NE audiophiles around? Howdy folks, Sorry to keep bombarding the list with these suspension questions, but I find that the further I delve into the subject, the harder it is to figure out what the heck I'm looking for. Any helpful advice would be greatly appreciated! Has anyone had any experience with Ground Control? I spoke with Jay and he's really nice - he put together a proposal with many different options for me, and it sounds pretty good. I'm just wondering if anyone out there has any practical experience with their product. He suggested koni single-adjustables in their funky custom MacPherson housings (which look neet-o), custom adjusted to whatever ride height and stiffness I want, with custom spring rates to boot. I also said "I want something maybe a little less stiff than the H&R C/O setup" and he said that would be no problem to create. The end result would be 4 rebound-adjustable shocks and ride-height adjustability at all corners, for a decent chunk less than the koni coilover kit. Add Eibach sway bars, the weld-in mounting tab reinforcements, and the GC rear control-arm bushing (a "no-brainer," he sez) and the grand total is about the price of H&R Coilovers. I've tried the H&R coilovers and know how they feel and ride, but I haven't heard from anyone w/GCs... anyone out there have 'em? Also, this second part is completely off-topic, so I apologize for the WOB and please respond to me privately. I know that when Suzy first mentioned her Aboslute Sound gig, there were responses from more than a few audiophiles in this group - any of you guys in the MA/RI/CT area? I'm organizing a little semi-private showing for a group of mostly car nuts, at a neet little shop in southeast MA that has a wonderfully esoteric selection of gear (they LOVE single-ended triodes, ya know) and the owner is one of the coolest cats around. If you have any interest, it will be at the end of may or the beginning of june, most likely on a saturday afternoon, with the obligatory fun drive and parking-lot-walk-around-and-say-"ooh, nice rims" photo session to be held slightly before the main event. Anyone who would like to know more about high-end home audio (and wants to start burning through money like a blowtorch!) is also more than welcome, please send me an email. As always, thanks for your help, folks! scott yu

#3. Drive for the cure & M3 convertible - from S Lafredo

Date: Thu, 10 May 2001 21:15:24 -0400 From: S Lafredo <slafredo@fast.net> Subject: Drive for the cure & M3 convertible I was just at the dealer today and learned three things. 1) Dealers are getting demo M3 convertibles. The one I saw was Imola Red. Not as bad as I thought it would be. The car was stickered at 56K+, say 57K. Considering that the car has a $1K gas guzzler tax it's not much more than the E36M3 convertible. 2) Drive for the cure is on again and they have new M3s available! 3) Turn out my dealer and some other local ones are selling at sticker and not a penny over. But what they are doing is ordering the cars w/every damn option and saying take it or leave it. :) Enjoy. S

#4. Crack on transmission housing - from Luis Veras

Date: Thu, 10 May 2001 21:22:29 -0400 From: "Luis Veras" <veras@tricom.net> Subject: Crack on transmission housing I had recently changed the transmission oil on my '96 M3, but noticed that it lost almost every drop of oil pretty soon. Checking the car I noticed that the transmission housing has a very ugly crack causing the tranny oil to leak. What can be done? Do I need to buy a new housing or can it be sealed in some way? Please advise. Thanks!

Can someone give me a comparison between Michelin Pilot Sports and Yokohama AVS Sports? Is the former really worth the $75 more per tire? TIA! Lee Conte Spring Valley CA US NIA#6917

It might be cost prohibitive to have all the internals transferred - But perhaps not. Good luck: 23 11 1 224 927 (Front Housing) 23 11 7 503 949 (Rear Housing) As always, doubler check with your dealer. Cheers, Jim E. Combine that data point with the fact that the car is supercharged, and while I dont autocross it, I still drive it plenty hard......I cant account for it either, but I'm not complaining! =20 --------------------------------------------------------- Paul Elliott '99 White M3; < 30K miles; Dinan stage II sc kit; Rotex pads; Steiger = SS and Clutch Stop; Sound by Polk, Excelon, JLAudio
