I don't know how someone (Bora?) got them installed for $35 but that was a deal. It took over 2 hours for my fix and was about $160. The mechanic did have to repair my original passenger side link first so that accounts for some of the extra time. The welding job isn't too pretty and I realize that it is difficult to get the welder in the tight spots but I have no doubt that it will do the job. I don't see where someone could have installed 2 reinforcements on each side either because there is nowhere to connect a reinforcement on the inside. I installed just the mount (specify type of seat carefully - $27 for the mount) and then drilled holes in a standard metal bracketed 2.5lb fire extinguisher from a hardware store and bolted it to the bracket. This gives you a removeable setup that doesnt involved drilling holes in the car. Partha Srinivasan

#6. Do you have a Blinder? - from Greg Cernosek

Date: Fri, 11 May 2001 10:15:33 -0500 From: "Greg Cernosek" <gcernosek@inetx.com> Subject: Do you have a Blinder? Group, I am interested in hearing first hand reports from those on the list who have installed the Blinder laser jammer. Here are a few questions? -How long have you had the unit installed? -Has the unit successfully jammed a laser signal for you? If so, how many times? -Does anyone know what the cop with the laser sees when jammed? -Have you ever been harassed by a cop for jamming him? If so, what happened? -What are your overall thoughts on the Blinder? -Would you buy it again? Thanks, Greg (aka 'Slinger) 98 M3/4 Dallas, TX

I had an M-06 unit for about 6 months (until I crashed my car) and have had an M-10 unit for about a year. > Has the unit successfully jammed a laser signal for you? If so, how many times? I think so once but I have no way of knowing for sure. I have a friend that has one installed on his NSX and he SWEARS that it has saved him twice. > Does anyone know what the cop with the laser sees when jammed? I believe that he doesn't see anything. > Have you ever been harassed by a cop for jamming him? If so, what happened? N/A > What are your overall thoughts on the Blinder? I bought a Norco Model 71230 2 1/4 ton jack about a year ago for $189 plus tax in the Seattle area. Check out their web site at http://www.norcoindustries.com. It has worked great for lifting the car onto jack stands and/or ramps in my garage. Also check out http://www.hyjacks.com/ for a discussion of various jack types and manufacturers, including Norco and various light (and expensive) racing jacks. And if you if you haven't already done this, check out Ron Stygar's great write-ups about jacking the E36 M3 at http://www.unofficialbmw.com. The Norco 71230 weighs about 100 lb. I personally wouldn't want to try to lift it into my trunk for a track day. I'm old and lazy, but hernia-free. For changing tires for driver's schools, I use the Norco in my garage and drive to the track with on my track tires. The pain-in-the-butt OEM trunk jack works fine in a pinch for removing one tire at a time, but it doesn't go quite high enough to put most standard jack-stands under the "hockey pucks." I think Ron Stygar may still have some lowered jackstands with adapters that fit under the "hockey pucks" if you really get serious about jacking up your M3. Cheers, Tim Williams '98 M3/4

And I mean decades, I saw jackstands that actually jacked the car up too. Of course these worked best on higher ground clearance pickups. But I bet that a medium duty set could be engineered with telescoping pieces. These should be able to get even a lowered car up high enough to change tires, oil and basic under car service while providing a wide secure base. The jacking mechanism was very similar to old style bumper jacks and had a safety pin to hold the thing in position. Maybe the guys that ripped off my ripped off bleeder design can run with this one too.
