Before we know it, even our future economy cars would be as quiet as mice, and as heavy as a van. Who's complaining? Doesn't the majority of the people want cars that ride like being on a moving cloud? Don't we all want everything computerized? Yeah, we people prefer electronic cup holder over road feel and agility. You die-hard sports car fans are a dying breed. David Tow ...From: "Ron Buchalski" <rbuchals@hotmail.com> You, know, it's funny, but people said the same thing when the E36 m3 (1995)replaced the E30 M3 (1988-1991). The E30 is a much lighter car, and has the feel of a go-kart compared to the E36 M3. If the E36 feels like a go-kart compared to an E46 M3, the new car must be a real pig! _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com

Hello Wise Ones, I need help installing Auto Meter Gauges. 1.What wire can I hook up the Air/fuel Gauge to (I know it needs the O2 sensor) . I remeber reading that it can one of the pinouts on the DME unit but I cant find that website. 2.Is it possible to hook up an Auto meter mechanical oil pressure gauge? what parts do I need? All they gave me was a plastic tube some brass nuts and a gauge. 3. Anyone install the UUC gauge adapter plate? I think some cutting is needed for fitment. Am I right about this? thanks for the help Ben- 95 M3 lots of wothless gauges at this point....

I want to add the the BMW Remote Keyless Entry Security and Alarm System to my '97, but I don't want to pay MSRP for the unit. Are there vendors anyone recommends that sell this part? I'm assuming that I could do the install myself. Please tell me if this is not a smart thing to attempt. TIA, Mel

Are there > vendors anyone > recommends that sell this part? Check a recent issue of the Roundel (you are a BMW CCA member, aren't you?). I purchased one for my previous 328is from The BMW Store (in Cincinnati?) a few years ago. Good price, great service. Someone else may have a more recent experience/recommendation, though. > I'm assuming that I could do > the install > myself. Please tell me if this is not a smart thing to attempt. Should be very easy as your M3 should be pre-wired for the alarm. It will be very easily plug-n-play. The most difficult part will be the glove box removal. Check out some of the info at The Unofficial E36 Home Page (http://www.unofficialbmw.com/bmw_e36.html - hint: bookmark this site, it's very helpful). Hope that helps, Jim Bassett 1998 M3/4 - protected by Clifford (the alarm, not the big red dog :-))

Ben, I don't think I qualify as one of the "Wise Ones", but I will share with you my thoughts on this Autometer mechanical oil pressure gauge hookup. From what I have seen, the JT designs solution to you secondary oil pickup is a better design. see http://www.jt-designs.com/products.htm at the bottom of the page. The other thing I will tell you is that running HOT ENGINE OIL into your cabin is dangerous. If you use the wimpy little plastic hose they give you and it leaks you could have hot engine oil spraying all over you and you passengers. Not a pleasant thought. However, I did this very install in my Mustang. Except, I used AN4 braided steel Teflon hose. I put a 1/4 NPT to AN4 (male) adapter at my distribution block, made an AN4 to AN4 female to female hose and used an AN4 bulkhead adapter at the firewall. This is instead of running the braided steel line through the firewall using a rubber grommet. From there I made another AN4 to AN4 female to female hose and ran it from the firewall (inside the car) to the gauge where I again used an AN4 to NPT adapter (the gauge is NPT thread). You can see the finished results here http://www.amt.org/mel/Mustangs/gauges.htm plus JT designs has installations instructions written by Jim Powell here http://www.jt-designs.com/oil_install.htm It sounds like a lot of extra work, but if you plan on living with a mechanical gauge, you need to think about your safety and some convenience of not having the line in the way all the time. Being able to disconnect and cap with an AN4 cap makes maintenance a lot easier. Cheers, Mel Date: Fri, 11 May 2001 18:53:51 -0700 From: "Ben C. I have a Clifford in my wife's 328i, and really like it. The install wasn't as easy as factory, but it has more features -- like automatic window/sunroof close, follow-me lights, etc. On top of all of that, you can't beat the price -- I paid about $200 for mine with all the goodies. - peterg '95 m3 - Factory Alarm installed by previous owner '96 328i - Fancy Clifford alarm

To what do you attribute the great mileage out of the Pilot Sports? 1. rotating tires F-R 2. dismounting & flipping them L-R 3. freeway driving only 4. some combination of the above I have 10,000 miles or so on a set of Potenza RE730s (stock wheels on a 97 M3 that I have owned 3 weeks). I won't be rotating these tires F-R or dismounting & flipping them L-R. Most of my driving is on the freeway. I'm wondering how much longer the RE730s might last (rears are looking pretty worn) and what would be a good tire to put on next time. Thanks, Kevin M. Water Pump mi$take Hello Digest, =20 I have been silently doing regular maintenence on my 95 M3 as anyone else has. Only problem. I made a grave mistake. I have sheared one of the bolts that holds the water pump to the block after putting the new one in and tightening. Let me tell you there is no other feeling like it. =3D-( I was using a torque wrench set to the right ft lbs. (At least I thought...) Anyways that is not important right now.. How difficult is the proceedure for someone (anyone but me...) to fix this? Feeling lightheaded right now....=20 =20 Thanks, =20 George

Sounds like a dead alternator, no? Should I just replace the alternator? (is the 80/110/140 amp alternator interchangeable?) or is there something else I need to check? Here's history... driving home one day, a/c shut off, the radio shut off... car continued to run, but would not restart upon arriving home. Replaced battery, car now starts, but displays 12 volts on the OBC. :( -kit 97 m3/4 that is falling apart! :)
