#1. Brake Switch/Stiff Throttle - from Chris Teague

Date: Fri, 11 May 2001 18:39:46 -0700 From: "Chris Teague" <cteague@home.com> Subject: Brake Switch/Stiff Throttle My LED panel told me that I had a brake circuit failure, so since I have a few weeks left on the warranty, I took it to the dealer. They replaced both brake bulbs, one socket, and the brake switch. =20 When I drove the car home, the throtte was very stiff, mostly from 1/2 way to full throttle. At first, it felt like the floor mat was stuffed underneath, but that is not the case. I can still hit full throttle, but it takes a lot of effort. I know I could take it back to the dealer next week, but is there something simple to look for that would have happened when they replaced the brake light switch? Under the hood looks fine, but I doubt they needed to open the hood. =20 Chris 97 M3/4

I'm sure a mechanic could get the old bolt out. It might take some work but certainly doable. I would let somebody else do it. You could even drive the car to the repair shop. Just put the rest of the water pump bolts in and tighten them down as specified. Chances are the water pump won't leak. If it does leak, put some silicone sealant around the area where it leaks. This will get you to the mechanic. No need to tow the car in. Good luck, Lowell Seaton - a few broken bolts along the way '95 M3 Dallas, Texas

#4. Bang! - from TiJaWill@aol.com

Date: Fri, 11 May 2001 22:53:26 EDT From: TiJaWill@aol.com Subject: Bang! Thursday evening, getting back into the car after taking the kids for pizza, I turned the key in the ignition to hear an immediate sharp bang! I looked around to see who had hit me or if the tree I was under had dropped a big limb. Went around to the back of the car, and noticed a stream of fluid running out just behind the diff. It wasn't gas, and I suddenly realized the battery was in the trunk. I opened the trunk to find a haze of white smoke. The battery had blown its caps off and cracked its case. The trail of fluid was coming from the trunk drain. I went to Sears and got one of their group 48 international batteries. I put it in, and all seems well. I checked the charging voltage: 14.2 max, 12.8 under load (headlights, fan, etc.). In line with the Bently description. I did also clean out the trunk with baking soda and lots of water. I also checked the vent tube: it was open. Is there anything else that should be checked on the charging system? I was concerned that the battery might have been overcharged, and I might have a faulty voltage regulator. The testing I did doesn't indicate a problem. Anyway, look out for exploding batteries! As of 03/95 it went up to $36,800 plus 570 destination. This is when they offered the lux. package btw. Cheers, Jim E. The bang was so loud I know my heart skipped a couple of beats :) It was a sealed battery and over the years the only thing I think I could have done to cause it was that maybe one time when I was adjusting the battery in the holder, I must have cracked the seam between the top and bottom halves and allowed the water to evaporate over time. Which I believe led to a build up of hydrogen gas and led to the explosion? I had battery bits everywhere! When I called the dealer they told me to drive the car down so they could look at it! Doh! No, battery guys. They said they had to see the car and check the electrical system to make sure it was not at fault before giving me a new battery. That was until I showed up w/what was left of the battery in an old driveway sealer container. They took one look and gave me a new battery. All I know is I never want to hear that again! Just as an addition to what I posted above, the alternator light on the dash does not come on. :( Car starts and runs just fine, but with only 12 volts as confirmed by OBC and by voltmeter. Anyone else just had an alternator croak? Thanks all! -kit

#10. AA Red Turbo M3 (was Re: [E36M3] Dinan Stage II Clutch Kit) - from Chester Wong

Date: Fri, 11 May 2001 21:50:01 -0700 (PDT) From: Chester Wong <chester_p_wong@yahoo.com> Subject: AA Red Turbo M3 (was Re: [E36M3] Dinan Stage II Clutch Kit) I just had the pleasure of driving one of the ActiveAutowerke Red E36M3 OBDI cars today. It was up for sale and a very nice fellow in NJ bought it. AFAIK, the engine was completely blueprinted, forged pistons, forged rods, etc, etc. An AA LTW flywheel and AA heavy duty clutch was also installed. To my surprise, the flywheel didn't rattle. Perhaps it was because the AC wasn't on (I heard Wayne's flywheel rattle only when the AC was on...I guess the AC causes a different rpm and perhaps adds some odd load that causes the resonance frequency to happen). I've never driven a car with a heavy duty clutch until today. When I thought I had hit the floor, I couldn't shift into gear! Wowzas! After driving it around for a while and then heading back to my car, I almost punched Ron's clutch stop right through the firewall! :) Now about the actual power of the beast. The folks at AA said that this car dyno'ed at 460HP. Ting, the owner, said that he has the boost turned down to 10psi or so. I do feel that my '99M3 pulls harder for the first few seconds when the boost hasn't kicked in. ...perhaps it's the 3.2L vs. 3.0L. But once you see that boost gauge go from negative to 0 and then start climbing....it's *HOLD ON FOR DEAR LIFE* 80mph comes up in a hurry! Now I could only imagine what Powell does on a daily basis....
