It is the shortest one out there and unlike the beta tool will fit on a 3/8" socket wrench which gives you leverage to do the whole job with one socket and wrench. With the 3/8" wrench you can get the leverage to losen and properly tighten the guide bolt vs. the 1/4" wrench. The make is Stahwille - a well know maker of auto tools. http://www.technictool.com/brake%20caliper%20sockets.htm PS. I have no affiliation with this supplier. #3. Broken VANOS? - from Juan Rico

My car seems to be down in power in the lower rev range and the thing pings like it's on deathrow whenever I floor it (no pinging at medium gas...) Before it would only do this in hot weather, now it does it at night too. Any ideas what this could be? Not sure if I'm driving an M3 anymore or a pinging Ford Escort... Juan.

The block was tested on a '95 shortly after it was developed. There appears to be some differences on some number of cars. I'm guessing that JTD has it figured out by this time. Give them a call. I went round and round trying to solve my problem with JTD and Eastern Motorwerks for a couple of months in January/February 2001. I was not aware of any solutions that JTD had at that time. I went a different direction. Regards, Rich

Plus, most people that bitch about getting the guide bolts crossthreaded or not coming out easily would have been a lot happier if they had only used a 1/4" ratchet in the first place. Show me someone with a 3/8" ratchet and I'll bet they are using one with a 10 or 12" handle. But for only $100 a piece, I'm willing to make this same socket in 1/2" drive and you can do away with that pesky 3/8" ratchet that over-torqued the guide bolt and just heat meld them together once and for all.
