The Boxster almost all come with Continental something-the-others. Very occassionally an S will have Michellins. But even the S usually comes with a Continental sport type tire. Jim Cancelled my order and promptly went up 42% in the market. Perhaps the ABS unit in an M3 > or Boxster S is more efficient and can get an extra few feet of stopping > distance? I'd bet this has a lot to do with it although it's not completely intuitive. The amount of weight transfer under max braking won't change with suspension changes, but the rate that the weight transfers (shocks) and the total suspension movement (springs) will change. That will effect how fast the tires load up and how much the geometry changes. The end result is that a firmer suspension can prevent immediately overloading the front tires and keep a better contact patch on the road due to limiting camber changes. Differences in the master cylinder, ABS, ABS programming, etc., also seem like they could effect braking, but I'd be hard pressed to explain exactly why. Bottom line, a 325 with M3 tires isn't an M3 and won't brake the same... it will be close though as I agree braking in these cars is traction limited, not rotor size or pad material limited. -- Ron Katona

They were offered to buyers as a dealer-installed freebie after the purchase, but there are many 98's (like mine) that don't have the stripes. I just liked it better without. Dave Hogg

A standard rollbar would tend to hose you if you wanted to get in the backseat. What with the diagonal braces and all. Since I didn't have folddown rear seats, that wouldn't do. So I specified a touring car type design. So you can still put stuff in the back. If you don't really like the people, you caould still haul passengers back there I suppose. I'm going to try and test the stopping distance of my P-Car brakes with my boss seated in-line with the adjustable I/O Port seat brace. You can gaze upon it at: http://www.apexcone.com/Rollbar/Rollbar.html There is a link to the 'normal' TC Kline 4 door rollbar imbedded in the testual description of the pictures at the beginning of Phase II.
