Date: 18 May 2001 12:39:45 CDT From: Barrett Nicholas <barrett.nicholas@usa.net> Subject: e36 rear sun screen? I remember a list of build codes John Firestone posted a few years ago (http://www.unofficialbmw.com/e36/misc/e36_build_codes.html) that lists an option # 415, Mechanical rear sun screen (limo). Has anyone ever seen this and could share what it's like? It's starting to get hot again here in Houston, so I'm looking into ways to cool things down. And I'm correct in my translation that limo = sedan, right? tia, Barrett ____________________________________________________________________ Get free email and a permanent address at http://www.netaddress.com/?N=1

After San Francisco BMW tried innumerable times to get me a "standard M3" replacement for the LWT's CF-covered center console (they're sickeningly expensive and warp in the heat, so I wanted to replace it with a stock part before it gets damaged), I gave up on them and went down to Peter Pan BMW in San Mateo. Well, the first one they ordered for me was wrong -- it had an extra cutout above the driver's window switch. I pointed that out, and Leo said he would call BMW and talk to someone there, 'cause there are so many different version listed on the fiche that it's unclear which is correct. Anyway, a few days later I get a call that the part is in, and sure enough, it seems they they got the right one (I'll put it in a few weeks from now). Only, it's twice (!) as expensive as the wrong part. Leo was a bit embarrassed (or felt sorry for me, with my two little girls riding the toy cars around in the parts department), and basically gave me the part at their cost (which was still more than the other part at their normal price). Saved me $100 or so. So, while their prices aren't as competitive as they should be (boy would I like to be a BMW dealer - ka-ching!), I've found them on this and other occasions to be friendly and helpful. -- ______________________________________ Andrew E. Happens to me at a number of different long fast right turns. Only solution I know of is to keep the tank well over 1/2 empty. There was a long discussion on this list some months ago about the technical background to the problem. /Magnus Thomé > From: Marc.S.Edwards@questdiagnostics.com > > All; > > I just wanted to relate an experience I had at Willow Springs > International > Raceway (the big long track) this past Monday with what I > believe was a fuel > starvation problem. Gee, you & I have the same commute (Pleasant Hill to Sunnyvale). > You doing the THILL club race this W/E? Good luck. Yes, I'm going to THill, but I'll be driving in the HPDE (school) on Sat, and sharing a friend's car in the 6-hour Enduro on Sun. Unfortunately the car I'll be racing in Club Racing still needs some engine work, so it's not ready for this weekend, but we'll try to make the next race in Buttonwillow. Jim

Some other member originally posted the leatherette (vinyl) credit and another member pointed out that the post was incorrect. The point I wanted to make in my post was that had it been truly substitued with leatherette, $500 is insufficient compensation. >I bet >if you cared enough to call BMW NA someone will be able to explain the >difference. Not really. >In the US, one could not buy an E36 M3 without leather in no matter what. Not true. With BMW Individual, you can get non-standard options, but as pointed out by another member here, it is not typical for someone to "downgrade" to cloth.
