I think there were one or two people who managed to convince their dealers into special ordering early '95 M3 with cloth seats, but that was a rare exception to the rule. Definitely rare in my experience. I drove a 1997 M3 coupe that used to be owned by a guy in Altoona, Pennsylvania (bought my SSR Integrals from this guy before he sold his M3 to get an S4) and he had convinced his dealer to special order his M3 without the OBC, without the sunroof, no A/C, delete leather option (suede/cloth seats) and the automatic's differential (I believe it was a 3:23 versus the 5 Speeds 3:15 - I am probably wrong on these ratios but you get my point). The seats were phenomenal and exactly what I had previously seen in the 1994 M-Technics (white coupes) prior to the arrival of the M3's in the States. The owner said he really fought with his local dealer to order the car this way but eventually won (he wanted a car like a LTW but brand new and in red he claimed). There was a solution that was offered, but it involved reworking the the fuel tank in a way that would end up costing over $700 (IIRC). I'd rather just top off the gas tank between runs. Date: Fri, 18 May 2001 17:05:11 EDT From: TheBrinkmans@aol.com Subject: List etiquette I'm sorry to hear that our list has lost a member who often contributed. But, do we all have to always agree with each other to participate in the list? Sure, there is an enormous range of experience and skill represented on the list and we will see radically different viewpoints expressed. Some with realistic comments and some not so realistic. But, isn't that the point of participating in this list? So we can hear what other's think about our cars and driving of them? It seems the comments on this issue has been mostly concerned with either re-hashing the brake thread or finding out how to download the closed web site. I think the bigger issues are the loss of a knowledgeable contributor and the loss of others' feeling free to express their thoughts. These losses will make the list less valuable to all of us. They are NOT the same part numbers. You should also note that you will need to replace your rear window shelf. Which may (based on which options/car you have) depend on color, whether or not you have the 3rd brake light (i.e., rear wing option or not), through loading (or not). Definitely a nice option in the summer and the hot climates. Cheers, Jim E.
