So it's not that uncommon (although you said you had over 1/2 tank, so that seems a little wierd). I think someone else told me they had duel fuel pumps or duel pickups or something like that; maybe you could do that if your class allows it? Scott

#2. Check Engine - how to read & reset on a 98 - from Jim Files

Date: Sun, 20 May 2001 10:09:26 -0700 From: Jim Files <jfiles@alumni.ucsd.edu> Subject: Check Engine - how to read & reset on a 98 'Morning. Yesterday, the check engine light came on in my 98 M3/2. I wasn't doing anything particularly challenging for the car - had just driven about 25 miles @ 80 MPH with the A/C on, came off the freeway to a complete stop at a light, and it lit up. I've poked around on the web, and have not found the answer to these two questions for a 98. I found related information for 95s, but not the 98. -> How do I read the meaning of the code? -> How do I reset the light to see if it will come on again? If there's a tool necessary to do this, then I have a third question: -> Anyone in the San Diego area have that tool, and could I make use of it? Any information would be greatly appreciated. But to answer your question - TX, NM, NV, AZ, parts of eastern CA, etc. 100MPH isn't really unusual out here these days. Shoot, when I last drove from Austin to CA, I had the cruise set to about 110 about 75% of the time. Not through cities or anything. Lots of opportunities to see what your car will do. And it's almost as safe as any race track. Safer, really, when you consider that the roads are straight and there's a lot less traffic than your typical DE. -Matt --- Carey Probst <hcprobst@alum.mit.edu> wrote: > Date: Sun, 20 May 2001 06:12:02 -0400 > From: "Carey Probst" <hcprobst@alum.mit.edu> > Subject: Re: [E36M3] power loss > > Maybe I've lived in the crowded Northeast too long, > but where to y'all find > places you can SAFELY cruise for miles in the 100mph > range? > > Carey Probst, '99 M3/2, BMW CCA Patroon and > Genesee Valley Chapters > Sharked, Stressed, Schrothed, Gauged > Soon to be Hitched and Braced > > A well regulated militia being necessary to the > security of a free State, > the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall > not be infringed. > > > ----- Original Message ----- > > From: "Lee Conte" <leeconte@home.com> > > To: "E36M3" <e36m3@bmw-m.net> > > Sent: Sunday, May 20, 2001 1:44 AM > > Subject: [E36M3] power loss > >I spent a good 1/2 hour or more just cruising along > > around the 95-110 range. Hwy 94 is AWESOME for riding a bike, and no doubt bitchin' in an M3. Take it as far as you want. My favorite ride was to take 94 east to the Sunrise Hwy, head north (S1) up and over Mt Laguna to Julian. From Julian I'd head either home through Poway and Wildcat Canyon Road or from Julian it would be to head over and go up the S/E side of Mt Palomar. Somewhere past Tecate (but still on hwy 94)there was a turnoff where we would race up and down the highway. You could see for miles. Be careful around Jacumba area. There was a Harley biker bar called 'Dogpatch'(by the big train bridge) that didn't cotton to race leather wearing dudes on Kawasaki's. They probably don't like any 4 wheeler other than a Dodge dualie. Me and a bud were out there once..... saw a couple of harley riders w/ their chicks on the back. We hammered the throttle, I looked over at my pal's speedo and saw it sweep past 140 as we blew past them. We did this about 2 miles west of Dogpatch. Flyin' past Dogpatch, knees dragging the corner, fat harley dudes givin' us the finger, I was prayin' that there wasn't some gravel at the apex cuz' the dudes we just blew off would have been a bit displeased! Another great drive this time of year is from Julian down to Banner on S2(?) and then through the Anza Borrego to Hwy 8/Ocotillo. We did this ride once, took us 1.5 hours (had to stop for gas)for the ~130 miles. Cruising over over the ridges, I noticed my tach was pegging as I was getting airborne. From Hwy 8 you can turn off and catch Hwy 94 at Alpine or maybe take the turn to Jacumba and pick up 94 along the way. A great ride. Send us pics when you do it! I know exactly where you're coming from. I just moved here from NJ a few months ago. But I'm telling you ... I live in east San Diego county now. Go east from here on the 8 and traffic thins to nothing about 5-10 miles out. Beyond that, it's just a car here and there, and they're usually all going around 80. BTW, anyone else from around here ... is 94 out to Campo a favorite drive or what? And thanks to everyone for the other replies. I'm going to have to try some 0-60s again driving solo and a/c off. I don't mind if it's just that I *am* getting used to it .. maybe I'm reading too much about people's performance with major mods or something. I still completely love the car of course. #10. Power Vent Window Pictures + E46M3 in Dark Blue - from Wayne Miller
Top
Date: Sun, 20 May 2001 23:43:21 -0400 From: "Wayne Miller" <m3@waynemiller.com> Subject: Power Vent Window Pictures + E46M3 in Dark Blue I have posted some pictures from our adventure yesterday installing the power rear vent windows. They aren't that great but the do give a sense of what had to be taken apart to do the job. Again, this project isn't for the faint of heart. http://216.35.73.137/VentWindows I used them today and found that it does make a difference when driving but not a huge difference. They are cool, even though I can't convince my girlfriend of this :-) I also finally scanned the pictures of the dark blue (NOT Laguna Seca blue) E46M3 that I saw in a dealership in Spain a few months ago. Unfortunately, it looks mostly black in the pictures due to the lighting (it was an indoor showroom at night lit by many fluorescent lights) but it was a nice dark blue. -Wayne
