Probably very low miles, but marked as used. I was told by an insider that they scour the country offering a slight increase over MSRP to small dealerships where they are not moving, buy them, put 200 miles on them, and to satisfy hungry BMW CRAZIENESS IN CALIFORNIA, they mark them up a few thousand more and make customers very happy paying $10K over MSRP as opposed to their new ones at $15K over MSRP. Seems almost illegal - they avoid the guzzler tax that way too. - Original Message ----- From: "Kit Wetzler" <kitwetzler@mindspring.com> To: ""Joe Dyer"" <joedyer@home.com> Sent: Sunday, May 20, 2001 1:08 AM Subject: e46 m3 | | They're around $62K in the south bay... allison and stevens creek bmw. | | -kit |

Dealers here in Northern CA are asking 72K new.<<< Again, I ask, why would anyone want to pay $$$ over MSRP when BMW is planning on mass-producing the E46 M3? Wait 6 months or so until they ramp-up production and watch the bottom fall out on prices. From everything I've read, BMW plans on selling more E46 M3's than they did E36 M3's . . . The tour that was in Minneapolis this past weekend didn't have an M3. I'm really bummed now. I drove the 330Xi and I was fairly impressed, not saying that it was incredible stock but it does have a ton of potential. On a slightly side note, my best friend and I ran into someone with a bit of road rage while driving the 2.5 Z3 for the cure. Some guy in a four door S-10 blazer starts changing lanes right infront of us. Now I mean no signal and Phil had to hit the brakes so hard the ABS kicked in. He then swerved back into his lane and proceeded to signal than look and then change lanes fully. As he was doing the lane change correctly I was in the process of saying "Nice Signal.", OK so I said it a bit loud, but hey was in a convertible. This guy pulls up next to us and tries to pick a fight saying that we were driving like maniacs. I responded level headed and stated that he had cut us off with out signaling at first. Which he retorted that he should get out and kick my a##. At this point I knew that I wasn't going to get anywhere with intelligence, so I started to ignore his taunts. Finally the light changed and we were able to lose him pretty quickly. I just can't believe that someone would make an error like that and then try and blame someone in a vehicle that is obviously participating in a philanthropic event. Thanks for letting me vent. There IS a flag for Vanos failure available to the DME. I assume that the flag gets set when the solenoid is not functioning. But that doesn't necessarily mean that the cam is advancing properly....does anyone know if the "classic" Vanos failure actually trips the MIL? I recall reading in the R&T article on used M3s, that Vanos failure does NOT trip the MIL. Does anyone know the real scoop? -Roger RogRacer@aol.com '95 M3

#9. Limited E46M3 Production - from S Lafredo

Date: Mon, 21 May 2001 07:11:04 -0700 (PDT) From: S Lafredo <slafredo@yahoo.com> Subject: Limited E46M3 Production I was talking w/my salesman about the new M3 last week. He told me I would have a 10 month wait if I wanted to order one. He also said that the new M3 will be a limited production car like the M5. I guess BMW listened to some owners when they whined and suggested that the E36M3 was too common and production should be low like the E30M3? Guess we should be careful in what we wish for... Well time will tell us which is right and if the price and availably will get better or worse. BTW, my personal guess is that there will not be a E46M4 4 door and that you will have to purchase an M5 if you want 4 doors. Just like you cannot get a 330iX wagon. Though I have been know to be wrong. :) My 2 cents.
