As I will be attending my first Track School at Laguna this Friday I would apreciate it if anyone has a link to something like this or general advice for that matter. I am planning on taking both my R and street tires and running possibly on the streets all day but I might stick the R's on at the end. The Drive For The > Cure doesn't come to Texas until September. However, no M3 is listed :( > > Lowell Seaton > '95 M3 > Dallas, Texas > Lowell and others, I drove a new M3 today at the "Cure" in Greensboro NC. I'm not sure how many fleets of Drive for the Cure cars they have. I thought it was just one but Minneapolis to NC in a day doesn't seem possible. In any event don't assume that because they don't have any M cars listed on the web, that the M3 won't show up. After hearing of the M3 in the "Drive" on this list, I made multiple calls to the coordinators but they completely denied that any M cars would be available. I reserved a Z3 for the heck of it and when I arrived, I asked about the M3. It was there but you had to specifically ask to get on that list and they won't allow you to reserve it ahead of time like the other cars. It turns out that they are trying to keep the M cars low key and essentially reserved for those who have a real enough interest to inquire. This east coast fleet tour started out with both an M3 and an M5. Last week the M5 was wrecked by some over zealous, underqualified driver. A related story was that two years ago a 22 year old was arrested driving an M Coupe for the "Cure" in Chapel Hill, NC. He was going 140 MPH - thus you now have to be >25 to sign up for the M3. FWIW, the E46 M3 was a blast. At first I was dissappointed until I noticed and pressed the Sport button and turned off the DSC. This totally tranformed the car. The sport mode should be the normal mode and the control should be renamed "parking attendant". All this talk of how big and heavy the E46 is didn't seem to stack up to me. I had a tougher time transitioning to the big, heavy E36 from my E30. This transistion seemed minor compared to the E30 => E36! I think I could definitely get used to the E46 as a daily driver. Getting back into my E36 was tough. It seemed sluggish on accelaration and the brakes seemed totally inadequate. This is exactly what I felt the first time I drove an E36 M3 and got back into my E30. Oh well I think today is a pretty good predicter of the future. Tom Tice '98 M3/4 '99 540/6

#5. Schroth Profi II with Stock 95 Seats - from Jeremy Lucas

Date: Tue, 22 May 2001 07:33:50 -0400 From: "Jeremy Lucas" <jlucas@columbus.rr.com> Subject: Schroth Profi II with Stock 95 Seats Guys, I just got my DE confirmation from NNJ PCA and their rules (for running modified cars) require either a 3" lap belt used in conjunction with the stock belts or a properly installed 5 or 6 point harness. However, my 95 M3 with Profi II asm (4 point mount) belts has neither. The shoulder belts are 3" (with the anti sub stitched section) and the lap belts are 2" wide. Now I could add the 2 anti sub straps and make it a 6 point but I was under the impression that it was not a good idea with the stock (Vadar style) seats due to the angle of the anti sub straps??? Anyone have the sub straps installed on your stock seats?? Any advice or past experiences with this club or the Profi II belts would be appreciated. I'm also going to talk to HMS Motorsport today about it. Thanks, Jeremy Lucas Delaware, OH 95 M3

#6. lifters - from Kris Welhart

Date: Tue, 22 May 2001 10:33:26 -0500 From: "Kris Welhart" <kris.welhart@cyou.com> Subject: lifters Hello all, I was at Sebring a few weeks ago and noticed that I had a ticking sound coming from the engine compartment. I took it to the mechanic that was at the track and he raised the RPM's and it went away, then he stated that it was a "lazy lifter" and not a big deal. I took that as a sign since it was 3:30 and home was 425 miles away and went on my way. I ordered the lifters when I got home in preparation for a school at roebling road 6/2 and 6/3. However, my mechanic can not fit me in until after that weekend. Do I need to be concerned with the lifter and pass on the event or will it be OK as long as I keep an eye on it? Any and all input is appreciated. Thanks, Kris

Someone else has already pointed this out to me. I know little about mechanics, so I thought that the ratio where in the tranny, because they were determined by the size of the pinions. But as it turns out, it's like you just said. I still would prefer a 96+ tranny, as I would like to install a transmission newer than my car. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Chester Wong" <chester_p_wong@yahoo.com> To: "Luis Veras" <veras@tricom.net>; "E36M3" <e36m3@bmw-m.net> Sent: Tuesday, May 22, 2001 12:31 PM Subject: Re: [E36M3] WTB: Transmission for an M3 '96+ > The ratios you are talking about are in the diff, no?
