#1. GC coilover impression - from John Bergstrom

My friend who has them went through Hell and back though getting it all setup right. I think he installed and uninstalled them 5-6 times trying to get everything to fit right without rubbing. As comfy as stock on the street, but the whole car just felt tighter than a stock M3. I can't say about performance on the track, as I only drove on street conditions. #2. Bilstein bumpstops trimmed opinion - from John Bergstrom

Date: Fri, 1 Jun 2001 23:17:52 -0700 (PDT) From: John Bergstrom <john0990@yahoo.com> Subject: Bilstein bumpstops trimmed opinion >>>Since you rode in cars with untrimmed Bilstein bumpstops, the ride would be harsh if the car is already sitting on the bumpstops. Trimming 2" out of the 3" bumpstop will allow for 2" of travel vs 0" travel, a big difference.<<< Remember, I drove a car with stock springs and Bilstein Sports. Should have more clearance. Still harsh and bouncy. And, because I have become so disillusioned, rabid, insane, and completely slaphappy (GOD, I MISS JIM POWELL), I did something really, really, really, really crazy . . . I drove to Dallas TX and went to Lowell's house tonight and drove his car to see for myself. Yes, some of you say, "why the hell didn't you just trim your damn bumpstops?!?!" Well, I just had to feel Lowell's claimed 1000000% increase myself. And the verdict is . . . . NADA. No detectable difference in my opinion. Still harsh, harsh, harsh, and still bouncy. Maybe a little less bouncy than my car, but I have different springs and sways. Am I a professional racecar driver? NAH. Am I a suspension expert? NOWAYINHELL. But I do know how an E36 M3 feels in many different forms in many different environments at this point, and I gotta say, Bob Stommel is right, Bilstein Sports are for the track. Not for a daily driver. At least not for someone like me, who has a great respect for what BMW M did out-of-the-box suspension wise on the M3, but who is just looking for something a step or 2 in the more aggressive/improved performance arena. Chant after me everyone, "daily driver, daily driver, daily driver". John '95 M3 __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Get personalized email addresses from Yahoo! #3. Trouble lights - from Mark Greene

Date: Sat, 02 Jun 2001 03:10:18 -0400 From: Mark Greene <gsa@arpinintl.com> Subject: Trouble lights This has been happening to me also but only intermittently. I have had a 1996 m3 that I got around eight weeks ago. I have never had ABS so I am not sure if it is on or off but I thought it might be a slight electrical problem that wasn't anything big to worry about (famous last)..... I may be taking the car in soon but I didn't want them chasing some small thing as the lights seem to go off more than on. This first happened last week after I returned back home from a business trip and the car wasn't run for 5 days. I will let you know if I end up finding anything out and would appreciate the same. Thanks, Mark My new-to-me '98 M3/4 started showing the ABS and ASC lights last weekend. I'm not aware of anything that happened to cause that. I was driving under pretty rainy conditions when it started but it has continued with the car dried out. The brake fluid level is OK and the brakes seem to be working fine. I did a hard stop yesterday to check them. The ABS is definitely disabled. If I shut the car off, the lights reset but seem to come back on after some variable amount of time. Not sure if it's related to brake usage or not. Any ideas what might be causing this? The Bentley E36 book isn't too helpful. Thanks for any suggestions. --Dan '73 R75/5 '98 M3/4

Date: Sat, 2 Jun 2001 04:36:23 EDT From: Brent95M3@aol.com Subject: Bilstein Saved!! Someone was asking about the ride quality of the Bilstein's. I just installed these myself, personally I find it to be acceptable. They are certainly firm but not rough (to me). Granted, perception is everything. On that note, I just got done installing my rollbar and putting my sparco rev seats (narrowest available) in. (again to prove that perception is everything, I find it quite comfortable, takes a little more time w/ belts but no other problems). So I would advise you ride in a car and find out if it suits your liking before purchasing. Brent Parks 1 BAD M3 Newly installed rollbar

However, when I arrived, I was running into people selling tickets everywhere. They had handfuls of tickets! It's safe to say that you can show up in Indy without a ticket and be able to buy a seat pretty much anywhere. Hotels are another matter. We ended up staying about 1.5 hours from Indy. -rb >Date: Thu, 31 May 2001 15:50:45 -0700 (PDT) >From: Chester Wong <chester_p_wong@yahoo.com> >Subject: Re: [E36M3] US GP > >Good luck finding... > >- Tickets (decent ones that aren't sky high) >- A hotel room (this is perhaps the most difficult) _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com

If you're still under warranty, have the dealer check the fault code and figure it out. If not, check the ABS sensors at each hub and their toothed wheels for contamination. They can pick up road crud and require periodic cleaning. Neil 96 M3

Date: 2 Jun 2001 08:32:11 -0700 From: dHoleman@spooze.com Subject: Euro Motor vs. SC I will ditto Seth's comments about the euro motor. I did the installation myself and you can count on at least 50-80 hours of labor and longer if there are any problems with the used motor. You can read all about the install and the challenges I ran into under the projects section of www.racepad.com There are lots of hidden costs and that can run into several thousand dollars. www.racepad.com

Well, Roger, as someone who owns one of those "unreliable" AA turbo kits I have to say..... I agree completly. Go with the Euro motor, or at least a SC. As for emissions legality of the euro, it can't be any worse than the AA turbo. No flames. just my $0.02 (+ about $7K and counting). -Matt --- Roger Baker <rbaker@velodyne.com> wrote: > Date: Sat, 02 Jun 2001 00:33:46 -0700 > From: Roger Baker <rbaker@velodyne.com> > Subject: Re: What about the S54? > > AA turbo faster than an S54 transplant? #10. Drove an M-COUPE today - from Bora Akyol

Date: Sat, 02 Jun 2001 17:02:17 +0000 From: Bora Akyol <akyol@akyol.org> Subject: Drove an M-COUPE today I test drove an M-coupe (99) today, I have to say I am impressed. It certainly is a very tight, stiff and rigid car with good turn in even with stock suspension. It would make a wonderful track car or a second car. For a guy with a family though, I can't justify owning a two seater. Does anyone have the full spec sheet for an M coupe (99), BMW web site did not list the weight of the car. Bora
