And so far, no one in florida has checked my emissions. So they don't really have to worry about emissions. But if I could only figure out how to get rid of those cats! Guess its to the S50 Euro engine. Probably the best way to go. Brent

Just keep it to one page, and it must be BMW related. No costs, no nothing, and must have pix of your car though. No gimmicks, I am not selling anything. However, you will have to email it to me and I will upload it. Simple huh? Brent brent@bmwmpire.com

#3. Street/Light Autox Brake pads? - from Sean M. Burke

I know this has been covered on the list 100's of times, but recently I noticed a few folks mentioning some new pads out there. What's the best brake pad to go with for fairly aggressive street driving and some periodic autox? I might do a track event or two but nothing major this summer (building a house really kills the car budget :) Thanks, and I apologize for the list clutter. --Sean '98 M3/4 Sharked, Euro Airbox, needing pads real soon now

If you want as good as or slightly better street braking which includes autocross AND you hate wheel dust, go with the Performance Friction R4s pads. Unlike track time, autocrossing does not heat up the brakes much different than street use. If you don't mind the heavy black dust on your wheels, stock pads are the ticket! I called it quits when my AA kit closed in on the $7k mark, which included a blown head gasket replacement and piston damage ;) That $7k doesn't include my replacement engine either! I'm having great results & very good performance with my new modified OBD1 3.2L engine. Several thousand street miles and 3 track events later it's still running like a clock & hasn't spit up any parts like it used to with forced induction. Though he never asked about emissions for either setup... mine should pass without any problem now. -- Roger Baker Matt Henson <hensonator@yahoo.com> wrote: > Well, Roger, as someone who owns one of those > "unreliable" AA turbo kits I have to say..... > > I agree completly. #8. Bilstein Saved!! - from Lew Becker

Date: Sun, 3 Jun 2001 00:41:51 -0700 From: "Lew Becker" <lmbeckercfls@earthlink.net> Subject: Bilstein Saved!! Dinan used to offer custom valved Bilsteins on their suspensions (with the bump stops trimmed), and I have that set-up. Although it was a few years ago, I clearly recall my initial impression (and surprise) that Dinan's shocks and springs (with strut hats swapped; sways and camber plates followed, along with an X-brace and strut brace) was that the car rode BETTER than stock -- tighter to be sure and perhaps a bit firmer; but, the ride seemed more supple over irregular pavement (which I attributed to the Bilsteins). And, yes, my car is my daily driver; it is NOT tracked and/or auto-crossed (although I note that the roads in the SF Bay area are pretty good). It might prove most productive if someone could divine Dinan's custom-valving. At one time, Jim Powell suggested that one might speak with the Bilstein folks and get a line on the same (or something very close); recognize, however, that Dinan's valving was developed to work with his springs. Over the past 25 years I've run Bilsteins and Koni's in my BMWs. In my experience, Bilsteins are better made, longer lasting, etc., which is why I went with the Bilsteins in my M3, even though Dinan also offered Koni's (and touted them, and their adjustability). It certainly is a very tight, stiff and rigid car with good turn in even with stock suspension. It would make a wonderful track car or a second car. For a guy with a family though, I can't justify owning a two seater. Does anyone have the full spec sheet for an M coupe (99), BMW web site did not list the weight of the car. Bora
