My covers were the second vader set they had ever made. So far, they haven't shown one bit of wear. The embroidered M-stripes also look very good, with the colors perfectly matched. I saw first hand when Kathy Lyle had them on her M Coupe and she absolutely destroyed two sets of Fikse's and her stock wheels when she used them. The formulation may have changed but this is the first I have heard of it. Care to elaborate some more. Neil is right on the money with the recommended track pads with one correction: Hawk Blues have been reformulated some time in 2000 and no longer throw off any flaming metal particles. They are some of the best and currently cheapest ($200 for all four corners) track pads out there. Don't be scared off Hawk Blues by yesteryear midwife tales ;-) alex f

The part number and description may change if you have a different seat (sedan, lux) or a different color than black. i.e. don't just read off the part number and expect a gray cover for a lux/sedan seat to show up. Information is below. I've already ordered and another lister did as well, so we're already part of the way there. > Part number: BMW3259329 > Color: Black with M stripes > Description: 325 M-3 coupe L/B sportseat with Lumbar H > Unit price: 109.00 > Supreme Seat Covers > 12307 S.W. 130th street > Miami, FL 33186 > Phone: 305-256-2986 > Fax: 305-256-8278 Enjoy. I'd really appreciate any experienced-based > recommendations. In a word, no :-) I've had somewhat good success with Brembo rotors. I can get them from a local shop for $45/each, so if they last 4-5 track weekends, that's seems reasonable. The exception, for me anyway, is Laguna :-) > (At the risk of sounding testy, I respecfully ask that you > not reply with a > lecture on how I'm warping my rotors because I'm "dragging" > my brakes on > the track rather than using them with authority. I'm an > accomplished SCCA > road racer who has acquired a reasonably high level of > braking skills. Thanks!) Not sounding testy at all, it helps to know your experience level in order to recommend (or rule out) a proper suggestion. Although I have yet to install it, brake ducting seems to be THE thing to reduce (or eliminate?) warpage. The only other thing is to realize (like I did) that rotors are consumables, just like pads. My track rotors have either warped or gotten significant heat cracks in them to make them unuseable, before they wore out from a thickness standpoint. There's my 2 cents. Hope it helps, Jim Bassett 1998 M3/4

This ability may be useful for those people with aftermarket racing shells as the driver's seat. The price shown below is for the pair. Luckily, logic prevailed and Supreme will only charge 1/2 for one seat cover even though they argued that they make two (left and right) at a time. As a result of no more >>than eight or ten track sesssions, I've warped two sets of factory >>rotors in less than 4,000 miles. Don't use the brakes, they just slow you down! 8^) Aside from using the best pads and rotors possible, and getting some air in there, don't lay on the pedal like you're doing a panic stop at every single corner. A real problem is intermediate drivers ( I don't know if this is you ) is that they are getting good at driving at the track and feel comfortable going fast. Easing off the throttle and squeezing the brakes with a smooth transition is often not yet in the skill set, so to go fast its "stay in the throttle until the last second, then lay on the binders". This is one technique, and it will work, but you'll cook your rotors, sometimes in as little as ONE session. (ask me how I know) Along with the new equipment, take an objective look at your braking style, as well. Its probably the thing you have most control over when it comes to warping your rotors. -Al (reformed rotor warper)

Sorry if I implied that the old Hawk Blues did not throw off metal particles that were imbedding themselves into the paint. I've also heard they did it. But the important part is that current Hawk Blues do _not_ do it anymore! > The formulation may have changed but this is the first I have > heard of it. Care to elaborate some more. Rich, I can report that my wheel and car paint are unmolested after the last track event anchored by Hawk Blues. I'm quoting compound changeover date from what I heard from the local club racers. I'm comfortable enough with the source not to have tracked down Hawk to verify this myself. If you choose to give them a call, please let us know what you find out. alex f > Date: Thu, 7 Jun 2001 12:45:42 -0400 > From: "Fadeev, Alex" <alex.fadeev@verizon.com> > Subject: RE: [E36M3] Re: Brake Rotors > > Neil Maller [mailto:neil.maller@gte.net] wrote: > > > > 1) Use brake components that can perform and survive at high > > temperature. > > - Consensus best brake pad for track day use: Performance Friction > > PF90, now being replaced by similar PF97 compound.
