Mine failed after about 5-6 uses. His after about 20-30. In both cases the ratchet mechanism bound up so the wrench would not ratchet and it was difficult to then feel when the correct torque was reached. I now use mine as a breaker bar. This says nothing about the quality of older Sears stuff, just apparently those they sell now. Torque wrenches are considered a specialty tool (or something like that) rather than a "hand tool" by Sears, so there is no warranty past the first 30 days or whatever Sears' usual return policy is. Just two data points... I guess you could buy five or six of these for the price of a Snap-on and consider them consumables. ;-) -- Ron Katona

#2. SF Bay Area Glass Installer Recommendation? - from Drew Bamford

Date: Sat, 09 Jun 2001 19:57:55 From: "Drew Bamford" <drewbam@hotmail.com> Subject: SF Bay Area Glass Installer Recommendation? In an "interesting" and highly unfortunate coincidence, given the recent discussion of replacement windshields, some sub-human decided to throw a television set at my windshield last night. Apparently, the set had ceased to function, and it was somehow the fault of my just-repaired M3. Given that my deductible is $500 (insurance is expensive for us younger, un-married types), can anyone recommend a non-dealer installer of OEM glass in the San Francisco area? Oh, and they dented my trunk, too. Can anyone recommend a paintless dent removal outfit around these parts? Thanks much in advance. drew | 98M3/4 on a bad luck streak _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com

I didn't like the way you set the torque...the lock mechanism easily unlocked and the handle would start turning again. I then bought the SK 3/8" drive torque wrench. Supposedly it goes from 10 - 100 ft pounds, but I wouldn't trust the extreme ends of the scale. I like this torque wrench much better. As a data point, the torque wrenches available at Home Deport (sold under the Huskey name) look just like my SK tool except for the ratcheting mechanism. Do not try (wasted money) these pads. Wasted after two days at Gingerman. I'm a track instructor here and can make stock pads last five days (at the track) along with six months of street usage. Back to stock pads for now. Any recommendations?????? Do not want squealers or excessive dust (some dust is ok of course).

#7. Still Dry in Houston - from Mel Silva

Date: Sat, 9 Jun 2001 23:03:28 -0500 From: "Mel Silva" <mel.silva@pdq.net> Subject: Still Dry in Houston Hi Gang, Just a note (after the power and some phones are back up) that I escaped last nights attack by the former Tropical Depression Allison unscathed. (BMW Content) Water started to lap at the garage doors at 4am this morning and I was concerned for Penny (my Byzanz M3/4). If I hadn't given away my floor jack and jack stands, I would have put the car into the air at 2am last night, but no jack stands, so no point. The water was completely drained from my sub-division by 10am this morning, but I still don't have long-distance phone service and I can't get out of the neighborhood. At least the power is still on! Allison has departed back into the Gulf of Mexico and I say good riddance, B*tch. I hope she doesn't develop back into a tropical storm and come back at us, we can't take any more. I have food and water for me and the dogs for a couple of weeks, damn good thing, I'm trapped in my own sub-division (the wife is in Nova Scotia with her mom eating lobster everyday!). I had to use the cell-phone to call her in Canada because two of the three AT&T trunk switching centers are completely submerged. Don't ask me why my ADSL line is working, I would have thought they would have shut it down to use for Emergency Management. The Houston fire department is using ham radio operators for their dispatching because the dispatch center has no phone service. This is the worst damn weather I have ever seen. I wonder if Momentum BMW in Houston http://www.momentumbmw.com/ has, uh... had any E46 M3's? Wanna buy a flood damaged 2001 M3? There will be thousands of flood damaged cars on the used market from Houston in 3 to 4 months, I wonder who's gonna buy the bimmers? If you haven't seen any pictures of the mess here, check out http://abclocal.go.com/ktrk/ and http://www.kprc.com/. I've never seen an 18 wheel Semi floating like a box of crackers before. Strange things be a happenin' here. Any other listers in the flood damaged area able to respond? Mel Lake Houston

I didn't even know there was a storm or anything like that (I don't get to watch the news much often...I'm in my own microcosm). Anyway, isn't it illegal to sell flood damaged cars? I remember a situation we had back here where some Ferraris were flooded and they had to be completely stripped and rebuilt and then were not available for sale in the states... I believe their new homes were to be in Mexico. Chester ===== __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Get personalized email addresses from Yahoo! It is only illegal to sell flood damaged cars as "new" and the damage must be disclosed. They can only be sold legally as "refurbished" or "reclaimed". It used to happen all the time, but consumers are more informed these days.
