Date: Sun, 10 Jun 2001 18:46:09 -0700 From: "Vadim Dubinsky" <dubinsky@cyberdude.com> Subject: Need SF Bay Area body shop recommendation Yesterday, while taking an on-ramp onto 101 I managed to break loose = the rear end of our M5 and in a blink of an eye I was sliding helplessly sideways down the camber of the road right into the light pole. The damage is confined to the left front quarter panel and the hood. I = wish I could find someone else to pin the blame on for this accident, but I can't. This one is all mine. About the only thing I can say in self defense is that after I climbed out I could see a lot of sand and dust on the road, probably blown in by the high winds on that day. =20 Anyway, now that the trauma of the initial shock is wearing off, I'm facing a daunting task of looking for a body shop and dealing with my insurance. I know of three high quality body shops in the Bay Area, Sunnyvale Auto Body, EuroCal Auto Body in Santa Rosa and B-Line in San Jose. Unfortunately, the Sunnyvale and B-Line are booked solid for at least a month out. I'll be calling EuroCal tomorrow, but suspect they are also slammed. The other big problem is that I'm averse to paying the high cost of towing the car (no it's not drivable) to these places. My insurance only covers the first $75 of the tow bill. =20 I live in Redwood City/San Carlos area and would like to know if anyone had particularly good or bad experiences with any body shops near me. Has anyone done business with: Exotic Auto Body on Old County, San Carlos Automotive Enterprise on Industrial Rd, San Carlos Eurotech on 171 Industrial Way, San Carlos If you can recommend any of these or other nearby places or have a word of advise, I would love to hear from you. =20 Much thanks in advance, =20 Vadim now with hurt pride and a hurt M5 :(

My fiancee's Mercedes is in need of service, so I was hoping that someone could recommend a good independent mechanic in the Bay Area. Both of us work in the Menlo Park / Palo Alto area. Thanks much in advance, Chris PS Go Ralf! __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Get personalized email addresses from Yahoo! Where can I get one? At what price? Is the installation do it yourself, or your mechanic does? I assume the airbag will still work seamlessly, right? Any electronics-related conflicts? Please advise. Thanks! Regards, Luis

You can use either type at BMWCCA driving schools. Chris T. 97 M3

Please advise. Thanks! The airbag will not transfer, you will need to get not only a 3 spoke steering wheel but also the airbag that fits in it. When I asked about it a while back, parts alone were close to $1000 so I decided against it. But I think there's some folks on the list who have done it though. Andrej '97 M3

Got real wet here in Sugar Land (suburb SW of Houston) on Thursday morning. My race car trailer was parked in front of the house, was nearly submerged. Had to move my F350 pickup up into the driveway or it would have had water into the cab. Once the rain stopped the flooding drained away quickly. Just got back from a weekend at Texas World Speedway. Glad to be there rather than in Houston this weekend! Had two great days of driving, lots of fun. Weird, weird weather. - Rich

#10. John who? - from Dorffer, Rich

Date: Mon, 11 Jun 2001 13:28:05 -0400 From: "Dorffer, Rich" <RDORFFER@CleIndians.com> Subject: John who? A repeat of "Self-depreciating NASCAR-related humor. Scroll down if not interested." I have a somewhat similar story. I took a flight from Cleveland to Orlando about two years ago and I noticed the guy beside me had some NASCAR gear on and a NASCAR duffle bag. I thought he looked like he may be either a big fan or a younger new driver. We spoke casually for a while before getting on the subject of NASCAR. Turns out he was from Bakersfield California and grew up karting. He said he was part of the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series and was headed to Florida for some testing in a Busch car before his next race the following weekend. We talked NASCAR some and he aspired to get a Winston Cup ride in the next couple of years. We talked the entire flight (even though I was more than willing to shut up and let the guy enjoy his flight but he would occasionally initiate conversation after a few moments of silence). Anyway, he was very down to earth and I just got the feeling he would turn up some day doing very well. Before he left the plane, he asked if I wanted anything signed. I said "Yeah, your duffle bag". He smiled and said "Sure". I laughed and I said "I was just kidding and I am sure he gets many requests but no thanks". I shook his hand and wished him luck. His name, Kevin Harvick (http://www.harvickmotorsports.com/) and he is a Winston Cup rookie this year and is ninth in the standings. He got a ride with Childress Racing after Dale Earnhardt's death. He leads the rookie standings. Regards, Rich
