#3. Dinan Stage 1 vs ProParts H&R OE Sport - from Preston Carey
Top
Date: Wed, 13 Jun 2001 17:19:32 -0400 From: "Preston Carey" <pcarey@babson.edu> Subject: Dinan Stage 1 vs ProParts H&R OE Sport I'm still exploring strut/shock options for my 98 M3/4 with shot stock shocks (say that a couple times fast...) Anyone have knowledge of these two strut/spring combinations and if one is better than the other. I can get either set for almost the same money. Both have Koni shocks and the difference lies in the springs obviously. Any reason to go one way or the other? ProParts talks about the Koni's being "specifically valved" for the OE Springs. Is this merely marketing speak for "adjustable shock" or do they actually get custom valving from Koni? TIA Regards, Preston

I was wondering if it's worth getting the Bentley Manual if I buy the BMW CD. Or is the Bentley Manual a better purchase? Or would they complement each other? Any input would be appreciated. Thanks as always! --- joe

#6. engine idle aberration - from Todd C. Merrill
Top
Date: Wed, 13 Jun 2001 19:20:57 -0400 (EDT) From: "Todd C. Merrill" <tmerrill@mathworks.com> Subject: engine idle aberration Long story short...driving around town, "check engine" light comes on. I pull over, check gauges, listen to the engine, all seems and feels normal. Decide to risk it [0] and drive the 2 miles to the dealer. Dealer replaces the O2 sensor. Now, when the car is warm and at idle, every 10-20-30 seconds or so the idle "burps" momentarily, a little blip that juuuust barely shakes the car, but what is most noticeable is the exhaust note (Dinan) that sounds, not quite like a very muffled backfire, but a lower-note skip. I'm pretty sure it didn't do this before the O2 sensor replacement. It might have done it when I pulled over, but at that point I could have imagined anything. Before the dealer tell me "they all do that," I'd like to be prepared with possibilities in case they don't. [0] I hate idiot lights. See other post "more gauges." Until next time... #7. more gauges - from Todd C. Merrill

Date: Wed, 13 Jun 2001 19:28:02 -0400 (EDT) From: "Todd C. Merrill" <tmerrill@mathworks.com> Subject: more gauges I'd like to add some more gauges to my car, in the spot below the OBC, like this: http://www.turnermotorsports.com/image/featured_bmw/featuredbmw_gauge_lg.jpg Where might I find the correct sized faceplate or a kit? (Turner says they don't do this.) I'm thinking oil temp, oil pressure, voltage. Any other good possibilities for a normally aspirated car? What might be the relative ease or difficultly for a DIY installation? Until next time... Todd tm-m3@mathworks.com 1998 BMW M3 coupe BMW CCA member, Boston Chapter ---

#9. ARC2 and Euro HFM on OBD2 - from Brent Williams
Top
Date: Wed, 13 Jun 2001 21:29:35 -0400 From: "Brent Williams" <brent@williamsconsultingltd.com> Subject: ARC2 and Euro HFM on OBD2 Ok, here I am again throwing out new ideas... I was looking through the BMP catalog and saw the Split Second ARC2 air/fuel calibrator. Now according to the catalog, I can use the Euro HFM with it and I was thinking why the hell not a big bore throttle body. Now, assuming that this all works, does anyone think I will be getting any more power out of my engine? Or am I still stuck with the restrictive intake runners? Any ideas? BMP has a solution for that too. Individual throttle bodies for each intake port. Whats your opinion on that one? Just some ideas... Brent 99 M3

Borrowed a friend's code reader and it returned 0D: 02 Sensor. Anything other than the obvious R&R on this? Disconnect the battery? Anything? Anyone? -- Ron Katona
