My apologies to Luis - I really thought the humor in this was self-evident, but I'm continually surprised at how poorly my sarcasm-based humor travels through email ;) You're in the DR, right? I'm not sure if you've seen the hype for the movie "the Fast and the Furious," but that was the humorous reference I used to try and convey the joke. Sorry 'bout the mixup. M3-relevant content: I won the battle of the tie rods. Last week my friend Scott and I attempted to separate the inner and outer tie rods, using a torch, a 5-lb engineer's hammer, vise grips, and a lot of harsh language. While the latter was probably the most effective, the end result was failure - these things freeze up like the polar ice caps. Last Sunday a fellow lister (Thanks, John!) said "I've got a HUGE pair of channelock pliers you can use," and it turned out to be relatively easy to peel back the locking plate on the inner tie rod securing nut, and unscrew the inner rod from the steering rack using John's Big-Channel-Lock-Of-Death pliers. While I wasn't able to retorque the new nut perfectly to spec, I think the lockplate should prevent the tie rod from working itself loose. Moral of the story? Don't bother trying to separate inner and outer rods, just get it right from the rack. And don't forget to order new lockpates and boot clamps :) Also, that inner nut has a thin 32mm flange - if you've got a thin-wall fan clutch wrench it will fit. best, scott ---------- Original Message ---------------------------------- From: "Luis Veras" <veras@tricom.net> Date: Mon, 18 Jun 2001 17:33:21 -0400 >I may be missing something here, but how the hell does a loudspeaker to >SOUND like a turbo give you an additional 40-50 HP? >

I haven't been pushing the sale of this car yet, but now it is time (so I've dropped the price). This car is in excellent condition. It has never been abused and has never seen the track (that's what the Continental is for). It has literally been used as a commuter car over the last three years bombing up and down Rt. 80 on my 64 mile RT daily commute (actually kinda sad). Hell, I think I made it 42,000 miles on the original MXX3s!! Located in Oak Ridge, NJ (kinda near 287 & 80). Contact: Tim 973.208.9747 (H) 973.967.6679 (W) timmy@cybernex.net

Date: Mon, 18 Jun 2001 21:06:24 -0400 From: "Brent Williams" <brent@williamsconsultingltd.com> Subject: M3 Model Changes 98-99 OK Here is a question for all you E36 experts: What is the oldest M3 with all the goodies you can get on it? For example I know mid year 98 the M3 got rear headrests and a few other things. So what else has been added in 98 and 99? For someone wanting all the goodies, do you have to get a 99 or can you get away with a 98.5? What are the differences? Brent

Luis, Either you have too much camber (unlikely unless you have modified the car), or you have too much toe out in front. I would have the toe checked. #10. Re: [E36M3] '95 Manual Climate Control system, water pump, etc. - from LoweSeaton@aol.com

Date: Tue, 19 Jun 2001 00:07:42 EDT From: LoweSeaton@aol.com Subject: Re: [E36M3] '95 Manual Climate Control system, water pump, etc. Reid, Be careful what you ask for. ;-) From hearing people describe how the '96+ Digital HVAC system works, it sounds like the digital one has a mind of its own and does all sorts of annoying things. At least with the '95 analog HVAC system when you set the blower speed, you know where the heck it is going to stay. It won't go into "auto" mode and blast you when you first start the engine. I would not worry too much about equally adjusting the temperature knobs. If you don't have a passenger, why bother? Let him/her adjust it. Besides, if you can tell a difference when adjusting the passenger side temp, you are a better man than me. I don't know about you, but here in Texas the M3 A/C is just barely adequate. And I mean BARELY. I usually just turn the driver's side temp all the way COLD. You do know when you turn the driver's side temp knob all the way COLD or all the way HOT, it defaults and overrides the passenger side temp? Read the owner's manual for more info about this feature. As for retrofitting the '96+ Digital HVAC into a '95? It can be done but it is very expensive and tedious. I think one of our list members - John Firestone - did this. I don't know if he would ever do it again. When the '96 M3 came out with the "cool" Digital HVAC, I was pissed. I wanted it! But now I am glad I have the old fashioned rotary knob version.
