Thanks Lowell! That may be a really good option after all then. I've noticed that most people get differnt results by a few tenths of a degree though (per side). Is that *always* the case, and if so, how detrimental is the difference? Will the swap change camber only in most cases? Right now, my car is only capable of getting -1.4° in the rear. I'm sure that lowering will allow for a greater amount, hopefully enough to keep it balanced with the -2° plus up front. > >And remember, any time you lower your front end, you are adding negative >camber. So if your C/O substantially lower your car, you already gain some >negative camber. > How hard is the hat swap? I mean, would it be wothwhile to get the suspension done first to see what the camber change is, and then if it's not sufficient, swap the hats after? I don't know... Maybe the getting the KMACs and using them as "fixed" plates is a good idea... Then again, the price is right on the swapped hats. It did it again a couple of time and I repeated the proceedure. Now it does not squeak anymore and NO I didn't break the armrest and YES it still works properly. :) Cheers, Roman S. 96 ///M3 Armrest intact -----Original Message----- From: Reid Conti To: E36M3 Sent: 6/22/01 8:54 AM Subject: [E36M3] sqeaking between driver's seat and armrest Date: Fri, 22 Jun 2001 08:52:22 -0700 (PDT) From: Reid Conti <reid@conti.net> Subject: sqeaking between driver's seat and armrest Has anybody else had the problem of the driver's seat squeaking against the armrest? It's driving my nuts! Sometimes the passenger seat does it too.. I wish the armrest was a couple of inches narrower. Anybody fix this? I want to put some felt where the seat and armrest contact each other, but I think it would look funny.. any better ideas (other than removing the armrest)? Perhaps an upholstry shop could open it up, narrow it down, and re-cover it? any tips would be appreciated. - reid ************************************************************* List Commands UNSUBSCRIBE - (in subject line) unsubscribes you from the mailing list. Date: Fri, 22 Jun 2001 13:46:21 EDT From: Milotaks1@aol.com Subject: Staggered Tire sizes I just recently got the stagered rims off another m3 for my 95 and will need to get tires. How bad of an idea is to get 235/40 all the way around because it would be a lot cheaper for me, basically free except for mounting. I know it goes against the whole idea of getting the staggered rims but for now I am hoping to be able to put the 235/40's on the car.Can it be done? TIA Milo 95 M3

#4. Strange knocking sound from engine - from FAS302@aol.com

Date: Fri, 22 Jun 2001 13:47:20 EDT From: FAS302@aol.com Subject: Strange knocking sound from engine Hello all I have a 95 M3 with just under 60k on the clock. Today I noticed a strange knocking sound like it had a valve tap, but, it wasn't continuous. Upon acceleration or deceleration, it wasn't there. But, if you held the throttle at a steady point, it could be heard quite loudly. It could easily be duplicated with the hood open just holding the throttle linkage. It had to be held at 3k rpm's or more to get the knock. At idle it was fine. The sound was coming from the front of the motor. I couldn't tell if it was the vanos or just behind it under the valve cover. Does this symptom sound familiar to anyone? The motor has always been really quiet and smooth. It's still smooth, but, the quiet is gone. Any suggestions would be appreciated. TIA, Evan

With my hat swap, I have -2.6 on one side, and -2.4 on the other. I can't tell if there's any effect of the difference. > Will the swap change camber only in most cases? Yep, changes camber only. > How hard is the hat swap? It involves removing the entire strut from the car, removing the hats & swapping. A spring compressor is helpful (but not required) for this. Hope that helps, Jim Bassett 1998 M3/4 - wounded 1988 M3 (loaner) - even on M+S tires it's a blast to drive :-)

The 235/40-17 is best on an 8 inch or 8-1/2 inch rim than on the 7-1/2 rim. Yes. I tried adding some washers (shims) to the armrest mounting point in the floor, but the effect was minimal. I ended up getting some sticky backed felt from a craft store and cutting a piece to match the contour of the armrest in that area. Since I have black leather the felt is not very noticable. ===== David Kroth david_kroth@yahoo.com __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? For those that have had the problem, how long before replacement/repair is needed? How much time needed and cost for parts and repairs? Thanks, James R. McMillan aka M3INCORP 97 M3 Colorado
