I haven't seen The Fast and the Furious. 2. I can't assume that everything that at first sight sounds stupid is just a joke. Dumbasses DO exist, you know, so without offending the original poster, it could have might as well been someone saying it seriously. Sue, I can't see why you're taking this personally. I was just pointing out something that everyone in this list knows it's a fact. 80% of the population don't really appreciate an M3 (they think it's a "regular" BMW), and of those, 65% are women, and the rest are men. Anyone arguing this fact needs to get their head checked. (Or if wherever you live is the opposite, let me know, so I can move there immediately). Hey, I'm not the smartest guy on this list, nor am I claiming to be. I barely know a bit about mechanics, which is why you see me asking constant questions on this list. I was just pointing a known fact, not trying to sound like a smarty pants. If you want to continue this "he said she said" immature thing, please reply privately, I don't think we should be bothering the list with it. You of all people should know that. PS: If you guys don't hear from me again, you know what happened and who did it. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Sue Kraft" <skraft1@new.rr.com> To: "E36M3" <e36m3@bmw-m.net> Sent: Monday, June 25, 2001 10:45 AM Subject: Re: [E36M3] "It looks like a Honda," she said > Date: Mon, 25 Jun 2001 09:38:03 -0500 > From: Sue Kraft <skraft1@new.rr.com> > Subject: Re: [E36M3] "It looks like a Honda," she said > > Weren't you the one that didn't even get the joke about the electronic blow off > sound generator last week? > > Suzy > > Luis Veras wrote: > > > Date: Mon, 25 Jun 2001 10:14:30 -0400 > > From: "Luis Veras" <veras@tricom.net> > > Subject: Re: [E36M3] "It looks like a Honda," she said > > > > I can't seem to score *ONCE* with you guys. > > > > Suzy, I wasn't bashing women. Like a fine butler, it's understated and nearly invisible, but (the power and handling) is always right there when you need it. "Officer! Did you see that crazy driver in that Honda go flying by me! He must have been doing 90!" I, too, will often get a glance from someone in a slammed car, or a Mercedes, or a 540i, etc., and that's all the satisfaction I need, that a fellow car enthusiast appreciates a good car, any good car, though we might have slightly different tastes and different definitions of "good." Until next time... Todd tm-m3@mathworks.com 1998 BMW M3 coupe BMW CCA member, Boston Chapter ---

Luis writes..... <<<Not to offend Anne here, but very few females really appreciate M3's (either E36 or E46). A similar thing happened to me the other day, but to the opposite (diminishing the E36).>>> Fellow Listers, Most women to not appreciate automobiles like the men and women on this list. But (to be fair) most men and women on this list probably do not appreciate what many of there interests. This being said I really consider myself very lucky. My girlfriend knows all about the M3 right down to the red needles on the guages. In fact she can spot a real M farther away than I can. I am not saying that the girl you went out with was "dumb" as you say, but that there are definitlely women out there that know and realize the difference. It is just a matter of finding the right one. My girlfriend however still feels that a majority of my time is wasted on my car with performance upgrades and cleaning it once a week. This is much better than calling it a 318ti like in your case. I should point out that my girlfriend did not always enjoy and share my passion for fine autos it took a lot of time and explaining, I also had to go to a few "flower shows" to offset bmw weekends. Life is a complex set of checks and balances, it is never simply plug n' play. ben ================================= Ben Tickner Vice President Information Fusion, Inc. Since I will now have two sets of staggered rims that are the same, I could put summer tires on the 8.5s and the snows on the 7.5s. I assume this is a good idea? How much advantage in handling do you find with the 245s in front? Thanks, Steve

Date: Mon, 25 Jun 2001 12:21:50 -0400 From: "Seth Thomas" <porsche993@mindspring.com> Subject: Big Brakes and Wheels The question was asked last week about Big Brakes and which wheels to use for them. I have only heard of two sets of wheels that will work with the Movit/Porsche Big Brake Kit. Forgelines in a 17x9 will work only with coilovers and SSR competitions will work in the 17x8.5 and 17x9 sizes. I am not sure why these work vs. other wheels with similar offsets but they do without spacers. It might be due to the shape of the wheel and that they both have spokes that curve outward. Similar to what Porsche started doing with their Cup wheels in the early 90s. Let me know if you guys find any others that do fit without spacers. Seth Thomas www.m3ltw.com

Why should anyone who could care less about cars "appreciate" an M3. I don't understand why anyone thing a car "deserves" respect. Don't get me wrong... I love every single second I've spent in my car, but it's still a car. I wouldn't trade it for anything (maybe a slight exageration), but that doesn't mean it "deserves" anything from the general public. The fact is, I don't particularly like the preconception that goes along with driving a BMW, so stealth is fine with me. >Like a fine butler, it's understated and nearly invisible, >but (the power and handling) is always right there when you need it. >..... >... fellow car enthusiast appreciates a good car, any good car, >though we might have slightly different tastes and different definitions >of "good." > Agreed! I love the fact that it's mostly enthusiast who actually know the M3. It makes it a treat when people want to stop and have some car talk. Besides, if I were trying to impress women with my car, that would be a baaaaad thing... The might actually think I have money, and not realize that I live beyond my means because of my love for driving. ;) > > --- Luis Veras <veras@tricom.net> also wrote: >PS: If you guys don't hear from me again, you know what happened and >who >did >it.
