I need a new front bumper grill for my non-luxury '96 M3 coupe, that means, the honeycomb pattern grill. Can you confirm that the part number I'm looking for is 51-11-2-250-685? Thanks. BTW, how much did it cost? Date: Wed, 27 Jun 2001 00:09:40 EDT From: LoweSeaton@aol.com Subject: Re: [E36M3] all this suspension stuff!!!???? kinda long & cracked strut towers John, You found a really knowledgeable and honest speed shop. I agree 100% on the Bilstein strut design. You most certainly are well into the bumpstops with any springs much shorter than stock. You must have some really rough roads in Boston if you are bottoming out your H&R Street (Sport) springs. I think they are fairly stiff. Much stiffer than stock or my Dinan front springs. Sounds like you have already bought the H&R O.E. Sport springs? Right? If not, you might try keeping the H&R Street springs you have and ditching the Bilstein struts. Koni single adjustable is the most likely alternative. If you like your M3 lowered, you may not like the H&R OE Sport springs. They will raise your M3 a good bit. I've got Bilstein struts/shocks on my M3. They work OK for my usage. I don't drive my M3 every day so I avoid the rough roads. I admit, Bilstein is not a very good choice for most people. I don't recommend Bilstein to my friends <grin> Overall, I think you would be happier with the H&R Street springs and Koni SA shocks. If you do keep the Bilstein, cut most all of the bumpstop off. It has 3 segments. I cut 2+ of the segments off. I trimmed my bumpstops 83%. Do you use the strut tower reinforcement rings? They might help a little to reduce future cracking. Swapping the hats will give you plenty of camber for the street. May be too much if all you do is straight line driving. But it is cheap. You might as well try it for a while at least. You should get a little bit more than -2.0 camber with swapped hats. I would not fool with the crash bolts. There is so little camber to be gained with them, I think it is meaningless. Good luck! #5. E46M3 finally spotted in London - from Sean Burke

I was in the back of a cab and didn't get a long look at it, but it was silver and right hand drive. I really like the silver color on the new M3. It helps tone down some of the "Hey, look at me" touches that BMW's added to the E46 M. If I see it again, I'll have the camera ready. \--Sean '98 M3/4 3 days left in driving exile

Not having a device like this allows you to get the car home should the clutch hydraulics fail for some reason. You start the car in gear and then match revs when you shift. With this device I don't see how that would be possible. Park the car and call AAA I guess. Bad move BMW. Shane Kleinpeter '96 M3 <-- limped home with no clutch once

I guess that's my point. If it is indeed NHTSA, then that would not surprise me one bit. The government has been responsible for the dumbing down of America for quite a while now. Save the idiots from themselves, I guess, at everybody else's expense. I had thought this was at the manufacturer's discretion since my wife's Acura (a '93, long since sold) and my college transportation appliance ('88 Isuzu Trooper) both had the interlock on the clutch, buy my Bimmer's never have.
