I can't complain since it did go for almost 6 years, but is a BMW battery worth the extra $$$ over aftermarket? I know this has been covered on the list in the past so any offline replies are greatly appreciated. Pete

#3. Purchase Question - from Robert Lonski

Date: Mon, 02 Jul 2001 22:46:09 -0700 From: Robert Lonski <lonski@pacbell.net> Subject: Purchase Question I am considering the purchase of a 98 M3 from a private owner. When I test drove the car I noticed that when the clutch pedal was fully depressed it bottomed-out on a white plastic stop. Once bottomed-out the pedal would move slightly to the left, it felt really strange and flimsy! Is this normal for M3's or may there be a problem with the car? The car had 45K miles on the clock. Thanks for your help Bob

Date: Tue, 3 Jul 2001 02:31:11 EDT From: LoweSeaton@aol.com Subject: Re: [E36M3] Battery options Pete, 6 years on the OE battery? Wow! I'd say you got your money's worth. I used to argue just get the BMW battery, it fits best. All the decent aftermarket batteries cost $85+ compared to the $125 BMW battery after BMWCCA member discount. Not a big savings in my mind. However, it looks like my new BMW battery is not going to last nearly as long as my OE battery. OE battery lasted 4 years. I'll be lucky to get 2 years out of this replacement battery. So I think I will try an Interstate Battery next. The Interstate Battery will fit fine in the battery well except for the location of the vent tube. The Interstate has the vent tube coming out of the front or something instead of the side like BMW. You have to run the vent tube across the battery. Probably not important. I think the price on the Interstate Battery will be over $100 so not much of a savings. I just hope it lasts longer than 2 years. The hot weather in Dallas just kills batteries. Good luck, Lowell Seaton '95 M3 Dallas, Texas

They're quiet, resist hydroplaning very well, have outstanding wet handling characteristics, and are just a few ticks off the top Dry handling tires on the market for ultimate grip. Since I set my camber plates for the season at 3 Degrees up front and know that tires are'nt going to last very long I'm always looking for a street tire that is inexpensive. One thing that I really noticed about the Kumho's is they're ride quality is outstanding compared to a BFG KD, or a Pilot etc. With my TC Kline Race C/O setup these tires really soften up the harshness of my current setup on the street. I'm sure it's the softer sidewall construction of the Kumho... I will be ordering these again....... Regards, Steve

We finally have a channel that covers racing that is actually fun to watch. If they go all NASCAR i'm sure we will lose our F1, Pro Rally, Touring cars (BMW content), boat, plane, and motorcycle racing forever. Jamie Speedvision junky Speedvision was recently purchased by FOX. If you watch and like Speedvision just the way it is and don't want it to turn into the NASCAR channel then please sign this petition. http://www.PetitionOnline.com/svsn/ __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? A 235/40 tire does not fall in between a 225/45 and a 245/40. The difference between a 225/45 and a 245/40 tire is only 1%. You should not expect to have a problem putting a 225/45 in back as well as all sizes would be the same (and its the size of the spare). However, using a 235/40 tire on back will likely cause TC problems as the difference now rises to roughly 2.3%. The TC system will sense the rear tires spinning that much faster than the front and may intervene. BMW only used 235/40s for one year and they were the same size all around. As you say, probably moot if you can find a 245/40. Rob > So I'd expect by interpolation that the in-between > case 225/45 F and 235/40 R would also work. > > I know you can't always interpolate with digital systems, as there could > be two discrete tire-size-profile cases programmed in, but I seriously > doubt that's how BMW implemented their TC system. Too brittle. The shop is called "The Car Doctor" and I am looking for the name of the mechanic, OK technician, that is familiar with M3s. I think he himself drives one. Thanks, Rob '97
