How many miles on the 6-sp, and how is it holding up? I've heard reports that some people are having trouble with their 6-speeds and some are even switching them back out for 5's. I appreciate the word on the Quaife, will have to look into it more. ------------------------------ Lee Conte San Diego, California <-----Original Message----- <From: Wayne Miller [mailto:m3@waynemiller.com] <Sent: Wednesday, July 04, 2001 11:28 AM <To: 'Lee Conte' <Subject: RE: [E36M3] multi question about trans. upgrades < < <Lee, < <I recently did almost all of what you have listed and am very happy with <the result. I originally bought a 3.73 ring & pinion and then decided <against it because it was too high and went with a 3.46 instead. I am <very happy with the 3.46 and first gear is real short so I can't even <imagine what it would be like with a 3.73. The only difference is that I <went with a Quaife differential instead of a regular limited slip and I <just can't say enough good things about the Quaife. Yes, it was about <$1,200 more than just a rebuilt diff but the extra traction is amazing - <it just gets the power down. < <I have a custom UUC short shifter, which I like. < <-- 6-sp + short shifter =? prone to misshifting <I put in the UUC Tranny Mount Enforcers and have no trouble with <misshifting. I will say that the 6 speed likes to go from 5th to 4th <rather than 6th but that isn't due to rotation of the transmission but <rather from the springs inside the transmission. My JTD transmission <mount wouldn't fit with the 6 speed so that was left out. < <-- 6-sp + flywheel =? problems? <No < <-- diff ratio ... too low? <Yes, as I mentioned above. < <As far as costs, they do add up. Here is what mine ran: < <6 Speed: $3,500 <Lightweight Flywheel: $594.84 <Differential: $2,400 <Shortshifter (plus other stuff): $368.75 <Installation (including new clutch, fuel filter and shipping for old <diff.): $2,000.33 <Total: $8,863.92 < <Is it worth all of that? For the exclusivity factor, maybe and the 6th <gear is nice on the highway but I think that the biggest difference came <from the Quaife. I am not convinced that the 6 speed was totally worth <it. < <If you have any other questions, feel free to call me at home (212) <874-7091 or on my cell phone (917) 548-5563. < <-Wayne <

There is a BMW part just for that purpose. I put my front plate on back when the local law enforcement started cracking down because of the cameras at certain signal lights. Joe ----- Original Message ----- From: <fesler@nsc.com> To: "E36M3" <e36m3@bmw-m.net> Sent: Thursday, July 05, 2001 11:06 AM Subject: [E36M3] How does one mount a front license plate? | Date: Thu, 5 Jul 2001 11:02:49 -0700 | From: fesler@nsc.com | Subject: How does one mount a front license plate? | | I received my first ticket with my nearly 1year old M3. Fortunately I | wasn't driving. Unfortunately it was a fix-it ticket for no front plate. I | had parked in a questionable parking location (at the end of an aisle | in a supermarket parking lot) and when I came out the officer was | writing the ticket. He said "If people park like this they will make | paint the curb red." In other words, he didn't like my parking space | but it wasn't illegal so he looked for something else to ticket me | for...Bingo, front plate. | | So I need to mount a front plate. A couple thoughts: | 1) Can I get away with temporarily gluing it on and taking care of the | fix-it ticket and then removing it? | | 2) If not I guess I need a method that doesn't look ugly and doesn't | damage the car. There is no obvious method for mounting on my | car. | | Thanks, | Eric | | | ************************************************************* | List Commands | UNSUBSCRIBE - (in subject line) unsubscribes you from the mailing list. | DIR - sends a listing of files available in the list's GET directory. | GET filename1.ext,filename2.ext - sends the requested file(s). | | To issue a command/request to the server: | Send a message with the command you wish executed as the | subject of the message to the email address e36m3@bmw-m.net. | ************************************************************* | |

Two of which I managed to get out of. The third Bev Hills PD got me. I mailed in a letter, saying I already got the ticket from a different district and both LA and West Hwd let me off. I bought another front plastic molding, drilled two holes and got two plastic fastners and can chose with or without. I'm leaving from Ventura, CA the 26th or 27th of July and heading up the boring 5 until Yosemite (only for a day or two), then cutting across to San Jose and San Fransisco (28th/29th) and taking the coast all the way back down on the 30th. So who's interested in getting together for food, beer, coffee, a short drive through your favorite local twisties, or whatever? Donna Seeley? Mike Mount? Jim Bassett? Anybody? Let me know. Date: Thu, 5 Jul 2001 18:58:00 -0400 From: "NickG" <nikog@MediaOne.net> Subject: Re: [E36M3] Great HID price Yes, the US M3 uses a 9006 bulb for the low beam, but a 9005 for the high beam. Technically, yes, you could retrofit HIDs to the high beams also, but I don't think it's optimal. When using the high beams, you typically flash them, meaning a quick turn on time. HIDs take a couple seconds to warm up and reach max intensity. Not exactly high beam material ;) Nick > Related to this....isn't the 9006 bulb used for our low beams, and the 9004 > bulb used for our high beams?
