There's no real overwhelming benefit to switching to staggered wheels on my 95 M3. It will indeed modify the handling on the car, by introducing some more understeer at the limit by slightly increasing grip in front and reducing it in back. Some have suggested this change to be pretty slight. In addition, the ability to rotate wheels is lost. Based on no real compelling reason to do it, I will stick with the same stock sizes, front and rear. Thanks everyone for taking the time to respond! - Chris

Do like I did and go to the dealer and tell them there's no license plate mount. If it's required in your state the car should have been delivered with it no? Mine wasn't. Got them to install it and then took it off and put into storage in case I need it.

From your comments, I assume it's HID low beams and Xenon highs. Right? On a related topic, does anyone know what element is used for standard Halogen bulbs? I always thought that Krypton or Argon was used but those are part of the Noble Gas family. -----Original Message----- From: Ben Liaw [mailto:ben@shortshifter.com] Sent: Thursday, July 05, 2001 7:16 PM To: E36M3 Subject: Re: [E36M3] Great HID price Date: Thu, 5 Jul 2001 21:48:51 -0400 From: "Ben Liaw" <ben@shortshifter.com> Subject: Re: [E36M3] Great HID price fwiw, BMW is offering bi-xenon lighting on most vehicles (including 3-series) for MY2002. i'm sure the xenon high beams are a different technology, which don't require the standard "charging" cycle of the current aftermarket setups. ben liaw

From your > comments, I assume it's HID low beams and Xenon highs. Right? Yup. Bi-xenon means HID in the low and high beams. Because HID requires a warm-up period and because cycling them on and off quickly (flashings someone) dramatically reduces the bulbs life, they cannot be used in the high beams as conventional highs. So what they do is either move the reflectors or move bulb in the reflector to achieve a different beam pattern Chester ===== __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? #5. Mounting a front license plate - from Dan Miley

Date: Fri, 06 Jul 2001 08:33:18 -0400 From: Dan Miley <dmiley@rcn.com> Subject: Mounting a front license plate I am legally required to have a front license plate in MA, but I really didn't want to drill holes through the "BMW" logo'ed front bumper cover insert. So I bought the BMW license plate bracket, then used heavy duty velcro to attach it to the front bumper. That worked fine for the inspection. I removed the plate after that. The velcro adhesive doesn't seem to be waterproof since the part left on the bumper started to peel after it got wet. Maybe there is a velcro with water- resistant adhesive. If you use black velcro, the part left on the front bumper isn't very noticeable when the plate is off. The velcro does cover up the BMW letters on the front, but you know what kind of car it is already, right? :-) BTW, the normal E36 and E36 M3 bumpers and license plate mounts seem to be different, so some of the advice to use regular E36 parts may or may not work. --Dan '98 M3/4

Since going more insane and buying the TC Kline rollbar and 6 point harnesses (which are scheduled to go in on Tuesday) for my M3, I am selling my Schroth Rallye 4 Harnessbelts. They have been in the car for just over one track season and are "like new" - excellent shape. I purchased them from HMS and I they have NEVER been in an accident. The tabs are already set up for the e-36. Should take you about 30-60 minutes to install. They are great for autocross or driver schools. Check out HMS's web page for details www.hmsmotorsport.com I have the following: driver and passenger belts, shoulder strap pads and strap adjuster grips. New the belts go for $146 per side, the shoulder pads go new for $30 per side and the grips go for $10 per side. How about $0.50 on the dollar and I'll take $185 plus shipping for everything/both sides. BTW, the belts are black and the shoulder pads are red. One of the gasses in standard halogens is xenon, the better bulbs tend to have more xenon. I'm not sure about argon, but I couldn't be surprised if there was some krypton involved. #9. How can this E36 part possibly be NLA ?!?!?! - from Andrew E. Kalman
Top
Date: Fri, 06 Jul 2001 08:27:11 -0700 From: "Andrew E. Kalman" <aek@pumpkininc.com> Subject: How can this E36 part possibly be NLA ?!?!?! Hi All. My dealer tells me that "Radio Supporting Frame" 65 12 8 378 759, cost around $12, is No Longer Available. How can this possibly be? This part is used in all E36s (except the ti), and is the part inside the dash that the radio "slips" / "pops" into. 1) Can anyone verify that it is in fact NLA? If not, where can I get it? 2) If it is NLA, where can I get one? Most of the junkyards I deal with don't do the newer cars, and I seriously doubt any junkyard has just this piece alone on a shelf ... As an aside, doesn't US law require that a manufacturer have parts available for 10 years or else they can't do business here? That's why, for example, Alfa still has parts available, even though they left the US in the mid-90's. Thanks, -- ______________________________________ Andrew E. Kalman, Ph.D. aek@pumpkininc.com
