Andrew Kalman has one that I've seen once, but it seems I've deleted his posts and e-mail. Does anyone have the url for this link or another? A p-car driving amigo wants to see the track before heading up to it. Thanks, Mike '95 M3 dented, but being repaired now.

Vern, these sound like they would be PERFECT for your car for the Peru ProSolo! ;-) -- Ron Katona '95 M3 BSP #06

#5. Vanos noise - from AVUSM3@aol.com

Date: Tue, 10 Jul 2001 20:32:22 EDT From: AVUSM3@aol.com Subject: Vanos noise Neil - Just to confirm that it is a normal noise....I had the same exact noise on my '95 (around 1700-1800 rpm, especially during deceleration of the engine). I went to the dealer and after he got tired of talking to me about it, he replaced the entire VANOS mechanism. The noise was almost completely gone with the new unit. Within about 3 months it was doing the same exact thing again!!! Slight design flaws are sometimes facts of life! John OK, I'm finally persuaded that the "gravel in a tin can" noise I hear around 1,600-2,000 rpm is the oft-mentioned VANOS noise that everyone (from dealers to Jim C.) says is normal. It is most noticeable under deacceleration and, based on the sound, I originally thought it was loose heat shield or broken ceramic substrate in ne of the cats. Has NE1 successfully eliminated -- or muted -- this VANOS noise? What is the state of the art thinking about it? BTW, my 99 M Coupe has 12,000 miles and is running BMW 5W-30 synthetic. At my next oil change, I'll switch to BMW's new 10W-40 synthetic. Neil Wash, DC 99 Imola Red M Coupe

Maybe we can talk Bob Tunnell into running Kumho street tires, what do you think? He'd probably still kill us.... Speaking of autocross - is anyone from the list planning on attending the Rome NY Divisional Championships on 8/3-8/5? I think I'm going to go up and run. Hopefully we'll see some M3's up there. #7. [E36M3] DIY Ram Air - from Paul Elliott

Date: Tue, 10 Jul 2001 21:22:36 -0400 From: "Paul Elliott" <pelliott@rcn.com> Subject: [E36M3] DIY Ram Air Ben, >>Since the E36 "brake ducts" don't really do anything to actually cool the brakes<< Since I have the Dinan intake as part of my SC kit, I had this exact setup....Cept I used about 7" of flexible 3" diameter air duct hosing, to run from the mouth ofthe brake duct up through a hole I cut in the brake duct, aimed right at the side of the Dinan K&N held in place by a good friction fit. But, be very careful......I found not too long afterwards I had developed a noticeable break 'judder' or vibration between 60 and 75 when applying the brakes.....I replaced the rotors and pads, and removed that contraption, using instead ducting in the Fog Lamp inlet to serve the same, but far safer purpose, and the braking is back to smooth as silk....I dispute therefore that the ducts do nothing to cool the rotors...Now, if I develop the same symptom, then I'd have to agree with you, but for the time being, I'd say stay away... --------------------------------------------------------- Paul Elliott '99 White M3; < 30K miles; Dinan stage II sc kit; Rotex pads; Steiger SS and Clutch Stop; Sound by Polk, Excelon, JLAudio

#9. Fender rolling in Bay Area...??? - from Steve
Top
Date: Tue, 10 Jul 2001 16:25:00 -0700 From: Steve <sgrigory@pacbell.net> Subject: Fender rolling in Bay Area...??? Well I FINALLY DISCOVERED where my rear tire has been rubbing on my car! At first I assumed it was rubbing somewhere on the inside, say on the inner fender liner for example. Nope! The tire is very lightly rubbing on the fender lip! My car was pretty damned filthy from a recent long trip (2500-ish miles) and the tire was dirty enough that I noticed where it has been rubbing. Yes, sometimes it pays to be lazy! So, does anyone know a good place in the Bay Area to have the rear fenders rolled? Or...is there a good write-up on how to do it yourself. I've heard about using a baseball bat but I've also heard it's not-to-hard to crack the paint, which I would like to avoid. I've also been told it's a very good idea to heat the paint on the fender with a hot gun before you roll them and I don't have access to a hot gun, hence my desire to have a good shop do this. Thanks, steve P.S. The car has 8.5-inch 10-spokes on the rear (and front) with 245/40 SO2's and Dinan's Stage III suspension. It's weird that it's rubbing the way it is.

My 97 yellow car had it just behind and above the right headlight. However, I cannot find this on my 98. I was told that the only wires I would need were in the wire harness for the control unit, and that the siren's harness was prewired. Any insight? Date: Tue, 10 Jul 2001 18:27:47 -0700 (PDT) From: Vince Leo <m332is@yahoo.com> Subject: Fwd: <FS> e-36 center console/armrest I have the center arm rest and console from a 99 M3. The interior is light grey, but the arm rest is a little darker (like the door panels). This includes all the parts you will need to convert to a center armrest if you don't already have one. Please note the center console,e is about 3 in longer than the console w/o the armrest so you can't just add the armrest. That is why I am selling both pieces. BTW they are in excellent shape. I would like to get $160 plus shipping. Vince 99 M3 89 M3 __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Get personalized email addresses from Yahoo!
