Tire Rack doesn't have any prices listed yet. I'm assuming this is going to be their replacement for the standard V700 Victoracer. I'm thinking about giving them a try as a lapping day/practice/drivers school tire. Thanks again Mark, Vern Anderson Mark Radelow wrote: > I run then on my race car and like them. #5. RE: Is car fax woth it. - from Vince Throckmorton

Date: Wed, 11 Jul 2001 09:58:31 -0500 From: Vince Throckmorton <vince@rjthrockmorton.com> Subject: RE: Is car fax woth it. Steve, If you are suspicious of hidden damage, excess mileage etc. It can help. BUT Car fax only traces the recorded history of a car at the DMV & insurance reporting levels. Like if someone rolls back the odometer under what was recorded in a transfer, or plate renewal it will show up on a car fax. Also if an insurance company totals a vehicle that will usually show up, also if a car ever had a salvage title. It could be useful to keep a dealer honest if they tell you it's a one owner car and the car fax would show you if it had 4 owners. I had a lemon T-Bird S Coupe several years ago that blew 5 head gaskets in one year, and after the 4th Ford refused to fix it under warranty. I got the car fax and found that the dealer bought it at an auction for $7K and the car stickered for $27K. My lawyer said it proved that it was either wrecked, a lemon buy back, or a repo, neither of which the dealer disclosed to me. It helped me out since I had a very questionable car. Hope this helps. My question is whether or not >anyone here has used it for whatever purpose and found it useful. I used it prior to the purchase of my 97 M3 this past April. I found the service very useful. My car had low miles (31900 miles in April) for a 4 year old car. The Carfax report confirmed that the car was driven very little between early 98 and Oct, 2000 (when prev owner bought car). The car had also been titled in several states... SC, then NY, then AZ, then VA (when PO titled it). There was nothing to put up the "STOP" sign on the purchase, mind you. I cannot imagine not using the Carfax service prior to the purchase of any used car. Think back to the early 90s before the web and Carfax.com existed.... how could one research the title history of a used car? It could not be done, AFAIK. When I installed my UUC swaybars (which come with rifle drilled, urethane bushings), I wrapped Teflon tape around the sway bar, lathered the bushing with lithium grease, and man-handled the slippery devils unto the sway bar. No squeaks yet and that has been over a year ago (12,000 miles and four track schools). I think the rubber bushings are a good solution as well although they may have more compliance, I am sure I could not perceive it personally. Regards, Rich 95 M3
