#1. Speedometer / Odometer question - from Mdriver13@aol.com

Date: Tue, 17 Jul 2001 19:13:17 EDT From: Mdriver13@aol.com Subject: Speedometer / Odometer question Just a quick question for the group. Where is the speedometer and odometer readings picked up on the M3? I run 255/40/17 on the rear, so the diameter is slightly greater than the standard 245/40/17. Also, going to autox's I run the 245/45/17 Kumho Victoracer all around, which is noticeably taller. If it's in the rear end, my speed and mileage is slower/lower than actual, right??? #2. M3 rental in Germany? - from Jay Sala

Date: Wed, 18 Jul 2001 07:38:57 +0800 From: Jay Sala <jsala@mist.com> Subject: M3 rental in Germany? Anyone know if its possible to rent an M3 in Germany? I will be in Germany for work but have a couple of days to myself, from Thursday to Saturday afternoon. I'll be driving down from Frankfurt to Munich, and will be dropping by the BMW Museum in Munich (factory tour was fully booked!). I'll be renting an E46 320i (manual) from Hertz (that's the sportiest 3-series they say they have). But, I was wondering if anyone knows of a rental agency (preferably in Munich) that has the E46 M3? If not, I'd be open to another sports car (Porsche? Ferrari?) if the price isn't too high. I'll be sharing the car with a friend so we can split the cost. Btw, I've been in London for a day now and I've seen more Ferraris (a 355, a 456GT and a 550 Maranello than high-perf BMWs. I saw a silver E39 M5, a nice black Z8 (great rumbling V8), but not a single M3, not E30, not E36, not E46). Thanks, - Jay P.S. I also tried to get a seat on the BMW Ring Taxi (hot lap of the Nurburgring in an E39 M5 driven by a professional race driver!) but it was sold out for the season! Must remember to book way in advance next time.

#3. Hans Stuck wears harnesses in his X5; the old roll bar debate - from Marc.S.Edwards@QuestDiagnostics.com

Date: Tue, 17 Jul 2001 17:14:16 -0700 From: Marc.S.Edwards@QuestDiagnostics.com Subject: Hans Stuck wears harnesses in his X5; the old roll bar debate In the link that was provided to the article about the ALMS M3 GTR http://www.searspoint.com/news/lemans2001/buckleupsafety.html "For me it is essential to put a seat belt on. In fact, in my road X5 I wear a harness. I don't mind the extra time it takes to put it on. I am happy to show the public how important it is to wear a seat belt," Stuck said. In making my comment I am assuming that Hans Stuck does not have rollbars in his X5 and that the harnesses are not the ones from Schroth that still let go so that you can duck out of the way of a crushing roof. It is interesting that Hans wears harnesses and doesn't worry about the rollover factor. But then again for every 50 of us mortals that roll a car maybe Hans will roll once. Marc 1995 M3 LTW

The sensor compensates for different differential ratios but not tire diameter. -Matt --- Mdriver13@aol.com wrote: > Date: Tue, 17 Jul 2001 19:13:17 EDT > From: Mdriver13@aol.com > Subject: Speedometer / Odometer question > > Just a quick question for the group. Or perhaps it is a language thing, and Hans said "harness" when he means "seatbelt." ? - Rich
