Even bearing in mind that they're going to use only BMW parts, rather than the more economical third party replacements that Carey quoted, they're still hosing you. Labour time for a 4 wheel brake replacement plus fluid flush and bleed shouldn't be much over 2 hours. > lights were from wheel sensor i believe they said... The wheel sensors pick up road crud. First, to the originator of this thread, I hope you didn't mean that this is the first service visit to your dealer at 60+k miles!!! Second, I just replaced my belts last Friday. Thanks to all who e-mailed or responded to my questions about replacing the belts. You'll need an 8mm allen socket to do the job, but my standard Craftsman socket was a bit too tall. Maybe one of those low profile sockets Jim Powell mentioned a while back would be better. Of course, you can always use a 8mm allen key and use an open ended wrench to turn it to relieve the tensioners. Anyway, after replacing both belts...I'm in heaven. I used to get this nasty squeak when the car sat for a while (2 or more days) and I would start it up. I guess the belts would get into a certain shape and would be cool and when you first started moving them, they'd squeak. Now when I start it up....silent. When the car idles, all I hear is the air induction and fuel injectors. Nice!!!! BTW, the belts aren't that pricey...but then again, maybe I've just become immune to the high maintenance costs of these cars. You could get the ITG oil from Josh at Eurosport (you know, the guy that works directly with JimC :-)). And, like Neil mentioned, you can clean it with just soap & water. I recommend using a bucket that you don't want to use for washing the car or anything else, as the oil & dirt will stain the bucket. Let the filter air dry, and re-oil. I replaced the brake pads last week and while I had one of the front calipers off, I tried to remove the rotor. I removed the counter-sunk hex bolt that holds the rotor to the hub, but could not get the rotor to budge. I didn't coerce the rotor any further as I wanted to ensure that I wasn't missing anything. Do I need to use a mallet or something? Is there something I'm missing? Please help. Also, I'd like to eventually replace the original headlight units with a set of the european ellipsoids and eventually install HIDs. Does anyone have a list of BMW part numbers for the conversion, and potential suppliers for the HID kit. I'm compiling info, so testemonials of HID product installations and success/failure stories would be appreciated. Thanks in advance, Jeremy Conners Dublin, OH 97 M3
