I was, almost, hoping for RSMs since I was going to replace them anyway when I replace the shocks. Turns out it's a broken rear sway bar bracket tab (or whatever the "real" name is). Don't know if I can get somewhere this weekend to get everything taken care of at once, but if not I may just get down hand have the tab welded back on. Would it be better to wait until I get reinforcement tabs, or should I just do this as a temp fix until I do it all at once? I certainly don't like the idea of all the stress that other parts are enduring to compensate for the broken tab. Also, is the end link on the rear bar moveable? Now that there's no load, I see that the link can be moved fore and aft (but not side to side)... is that normal, or broken? I don't mind "worn" parts needing replacement, it's expected, but broken things are really starting to get to me. I'm tempted to go back to stock bars when I replace the shocks/springs or even just go with a <gasp> Dinan Stagewhatever set up that uses rubber bushings and smaller bars (never heard of any broken parts from Dinan systems, but maybe that's because I can't name many people that have them). Then again, Ground Control and TC Kline are on my list of places I can go to get everything done at once. (hate the thought of a welding torch under my car... AGAIN!) #3. Which sway bar reinforcing mounts? - from Mark Kern
Top
Date: Tue, 7 Aug 2001 08:12:17 -0700 From: "Mark Kern" <markkern@home.com> Subject: Which sway bar reinforcing mounts? I apologize in advance if this has already been covered by the list... I autocross/track my M3 about 4-5 times a year. I certainly do not want to tear my sway bar mounts. I have a stock suspension, but am I at risk? And which reinforcing product do people recommend? The ones sold at turner motorsports (TMS E36 Rear Sway Bar Reinforcement Kit) claims to attach in a way that is different (and more correct) from the others: "Unlike the E30 where the rear sway bar mounts are attached to the chassis of the car, the rear sway bar on the E36 attaches to the rear sub-frame, which is dynamically independent from the chassis. Sub-frame movement under hard cornering will not cause additional sway bar flex, and will not cause sway bar mount or chassis sheet metal damage when our kit is used. Our kit reinforces the rear sway bar mounts to the sub-frame, keeping it all one independent part, separate from the chassis, the way it was designed by BMW." Any validity to these claims? Has anyone tried these or others and have any pros/cons to share? - Mark

They fit very well and while the color of the covers isn't quite right (I have a Modena interior) it's not wrong either - if that makes sense. So these covers get two thumbs up from me.

That's exactly how I would describe my seat covers, I also have the Modena interior. I've had the covers for probably a year and a half. Over time the seat covers fade a bit with washings, but over time you get used to how they look. Extremely durable > So these covers get two thumbs up from me. Ditto! Andrej '97 M3

If anyone has any experience with this and knows the fix, please email me. Thanks! - rob

#10. E36 M3 Underpanel Reinforcement - from Dorffer, Rich
Top
Date: Tue, 7 Aug 2001 15:17:16 -0400 From: "Dorffer, Rich" <RDORFFER@CleIndians.com> Subject: E36 M3 Underpanel Reinforcement I mentioned that I reinforced my new underpanel before installing it on my E36 M3. Here is a link to the photo album. http://albums.photopoint.com/j/AlbumIndex?u=1090300&a=13603061 Again, Neil Maller has done some extensive work (and documented instructions) on reinforcing the leading edge of the underpanel as well as the attachment points for the porkchops and fender liners.
