Date: Thu, 9 Aug 2001 19:05:47 -0400 From: "James Clay" <james@bimmerworld.com> Subject: swaybars >The other reason that the E36 lifts its inside front wheel is that no matter >what the swaybars, people typically run rear springs that are too soft for >track use. The rear squats under power on track-out, and combined with >lateral loading the car now rolls about an axis between the outside front >and inside rear corners, lifting the inside front wheel off the ground. Well, I am guilty of this one also. Started out the season on 500F/500R - not exactly normal. But once again, weight transfer is good, you need weight on the rear wheels so you can get out of the turn fast! The front is supposed to be along for a ride at this point. Your weight is transferred, you are on the power, you should be done turning the car way back in the corner and just unwinding the wheel and tracking out at this point. This also what allows you to clobber the curbing at the apex and not upset the car - the clobbering tire is in the air. Yeah we reinforce mounts for aftermarket bars - I was just getting a point across. We usually don't reinforce the mounts for stock bars unless specifically asked though - stiff springs+soft bars = no problems. Neil is 100% correct - suspension tuning is definitely a compromise on a street car - mine is limited to a set of H&R and bilstein Sports. I took my old street car (solid mounts, race springs) across the GW bridge in NY once - would never have that same setup if I lived there. It took me a long time to figure out that every goodie you can put on the car isn't the best though - I was just adding the data point. There are definitely some serious track guys on this list that might benefit. #2. New owner questions re: fuel pump/sender and valve retainers - from Marc.S.Edwards@QuestDiagnostics.com

Date: Thu, 9 Aug 2001 16:44:54 -0700 From: Marc.S.Edwards@QuestDiagnostics.com Subject: New owner questions re: fuel pump/sender and valve retainers Congratulations to Mike Morris, a new owner of a 1995 M3 who asked about fuel sender gas leakage and valve retainers. Also from my personal experience: 1. Sometimes the clamps holding the hose onto the plastic neck of the fuel level sending unit or the fuel pump unit (there are sometimes 2 of these depending on year with portals under the back seat to get to them) weaken leaving fuel to leak out between hose and neck. Change to a "rack and pinion" screw type clamp you can get at hardware stores and that will take care of the clamp problem. If the fuel sending unit is cracked then you need to replace it. If I remember correctly it is cheap, certainly less than 50 dollars. You don't need to fully empty the tank when working on it. But, having a near empty tank just by driving the car around isn't a bad idea. You get a new rubber gasket when you buy the unit at the BMW dealership. You don't need a special tool to unscrew the large screw-type collar device that holds the fuel sender into the tank. It is the collar that unscrews, not the sender itself. You can just use a carefully placed flat head screwdriver or flat punch and a hammer and carefully supply torque tangential to the collar to get it undone. I've done one myself and watched someone else do one also and this technique works fine. Not to sound juvenile, but, remember that you are dealing with gasoline and sparks or other electrical sparking gadgets should be kept away. It is empty tanks (fumes) that explode, not full ones. Do in a well ventilated area too. Some people also disconnect the battery...something I didn't do. 2. Valve retainers: if your car has not been abused and you don't think that you will be pushing the limits in terms of red line all the time and down-shifting at the track where revs just might get around 7K or a little more then I wouldn't bother putting in the newer harder valve retainers. I had them put in one of my cars when I started doing track events and it was at least 500$$ from an independent if memory serves. However, that was at least 3 years ago and I may be way off. Others can relate their experience with titanium because titanium has some special properties that in the wrong application may be unsuitable for what you are looking for. Probably something you should worry morea about is to have the plastic bladed water pump replaced by a metal bladed pump. The plastic ones fail on high mileage cars. Also, replace the plastic thermostat cover with a metal one. The plastic necks on the thermostat cover fail and break as does also the upper plastic neck on the radiator. Hope this helps, Marc 1995 M3 LTW (had gas line clamp problem) 29K miles 1995 M3 regular (had bad fuel sender that I changed for a new one) 39K miles

The plastic ones fail on high > mileage cars. To all that will be having this done if you havent already. Dont assume that a new water pump will be metal. I have seen more than one shop that was still getting and selling PLASTIC water pumps. Not all OEM water pumps have metal impellers. Double check when you have this done. Mike

Sales had tailed off, so they never re-ordered. He's right. How many M3'ers will pay $450 for the bar just because it's a little stiffer than the $275 variety? Apparently not many. I've got the Barbarian on the track car and the BMP bar on the street car. On the track it definitely matters. Oh, yeah, a friend of mine is looking for a used UUC bar, if any one is selling... Anyone else love to see that racing video? Suzy -------- Original Message -------- Subject: 2nd M3 Date: Thu, 09 Aug 2001 23:21:35 +0000 From: "ONUR TAVSANCIL" <pride355@hotmail.com> To: suzy@bmw-m.net Hi, This is the second M3! Its fashionrot color makes it very special. The car is 98 coupe. It has G-power supercharger kit, stage2 giving around 430 hp. My friend uses 3 different diff.s 3.23, 3.64, 3.91. He got the best result with 3.23 because his new redline with the supercharger is 7000 rpm. So shorter diff decreases the car's top speed and and makes the overall ratio (gear ratios * diff.ratio) longer at low speeds. If I can't explain it clearly, let me know. I would be more specific. This car has g-power rear muffler with straight tips and g-power racing cats. Eibach swaybars, SS brake lines, ACS shortshıfter, ACS floor mats (I have racing dynamics mats), ACS handbrake, ACS pedals (BTW I'm plannıng to buy one set for my car also). Motorsport strut brace, X-brace, corner splitter. Lip spoiler on the trunk. His car is much faster than 993 911 Turbo and Ferrari 360 Modena's. Actually as fast as a Diablo. He has the mpeg's racing with them. Hopefully he will get them on the web. PS. Wheels in the pictures are not actually his. They were put just to see how they look. His wheels are M contours. ONUR

Gee Scotty, I'm awful dog gone sorry you had to read my advertisement for my car more than once. Have you ever wanted to sell or buy a high line well maintained BMW? That's what the list is for you putz. The exchange of goods, information and services for BMW enthusiasts. Yes I've advertised several times on the list. I don't think I've abused the privilege. I could post everyday. What do suggest the asking price should be? Maybe I'll pay you a finder's fee or are you like every redneck Missourian that want's a car for free. It's already under list now. What's your fucking problem? Are you a Joe Six Pack that want's, but can't afford an M3? What do you drive now and how old are you, 18, 19 maybe 20? Don't make me take this to the list. You'll expose your ignorance even more! I invite any reply or personal visit!! In fact if you have the balls call me. What's up w/ your post? What does this have to do w/ you? Are you just a poor frustrated wannna' be? Evan
