#1. clunking sound from down under - from Mdriver13@aol.com

Date: Sat, 11 Aug 2001 11:22:17 EDT From: Mdriver13@aol.com Subject: clunking sound from down under To Group, I've been experiencing a clunking sound over small bumps at low speed over the past three months. I thought I had figured it out at the last autox when I noticed my battery clamp down nut was loose. On the way home heard it again and getting louder! Under the car all last week (over 90 degrees in the garage) looking for loose nuts, or worse...bent/broken sway bar mounts (Eibach sways with stock suspension). Could not find everything wrong. So, called the Dealer (Daniels BMW) yesterday about the problem...he had me bring it right over. Joe, my friendly service manager gets in the car, hears the clunk right away and directs me right to the service lift. Everybody pushing/pulling on all parts (what attention to the Purple machine), but finding nothing. Then one of the techs puts a wrench on the right front sway bar link and the wrench spins like a top! PROBLEM SOLVED..loose sway bar link. Hopefully, this could be what was causing my front tire wear problem as well. They did this work for nothing...that's service! Maybe, this caused my poor performance at Boeing...but I don't think so (that damn Chicago Box). Hope this note helps some of you...check those sway bar links, even if they feel tight by a hand check. Bob Gill 97 ///M3 coupe Philly Region SCCA AS Champion 1997 & 2000 #13 BSP 2001

Correct, around 5/96. i say that because my car was made 5/96 but had the plastic impeller pump. > My M3 was manufactured in early 96 and has ~31K miles on the odometer. Assume you mean 97. Ha, I thought you were just attacking the curbs to throw up a huge dustcloud so no one behind you can see where they are driving. Between you and Barry, VIR is going to be filling in the holes behind the curbing for years to come. I can't believe that ya'll are running that soft of a setup. Suffice it to say that my springs are a heck of a lot stiffer on my ITS car. It works in the dry, but it should be a beast in the wet. Catch ya at Roebling next weekend. -Bryan Watts

#7. Schrick cams, intake ect... 300hp?? - from Josh

Date: Sat, 11 Aug 2001 14:31:21 -0600 From: Josh <eurosprt@xmission.com> Subject: Schrick cams, intake ect... 300hp?? A couple of notes on the new cam kit that will be ready for release within the next couple of months. First of all the kit is in no way finished/finalized at this point and the dyno charts that we have that show 294hp are reflective of that fact. Last weekend Jim C. and I did some testing on various prototype parts in combination with some Schrick cams. We found performance gains that seemed worthy of production of some of the new prototype parts. We also have the kit on the road being tested. Accounts from friends and those who have had a chance to drive one of the test cars have been very positive (i.e. "holy shit its fast"!). My own personal experience driving the test car has been equally positive. Below 4000rpm the car feels great, but above 4000rpm the car begins to feel like it is receiving a blood transfusion from Hercules. Amazingly enough the car is very civil with an almost natural smoothness. After comparing it to some other stock M3's I came to the conclusion that there were no adverse performance or idle reactions to the hardware of the kit. The idle felt no different than stock and there didn't seem to be any trade-offs in torque anywhere in the rpm band (dyno charts confirm this!). One of the best ways to describe the kit came from one of my 3.0L customers who had previously had our Euro HFM intake system until he upgraded to the cam package. He said "Thanks for the wonderful new cam kit, it feels like I have an extra liter of displacement under the hood". If any of you are E30 M3 sig list members then you would be familiar with Ben Thongsai who happened to be the mechanic that installed the kit in the above quoted customers car. Ben who has worked on many a race car including Euro M3 motor transplant cars said, "The car feels like it has a Euro motor under the hood". As soon as the components of the kit are finalized tuned and ready you will be able to view the results and components on my website. We don't have a price yet because some of the parts are brand new with an unknown cost of production. My guess is that the kit will be relatively close in price to the previous 3.0L kit. If you are thinking about getting this kit, then I would suggest that you drop me a line so I can add your name to the list that has already started to form. If we do end up offering introductory pricing, the first production run of the kit is where it will be. #8. Heating/cooling, auto startup - from Carl Harris Sewell

Date: Sat, 11 Aug 2001 16:55:46 -0400 From: "Carl Harris Sewell" <jzy308@adelphia.net> Subject: Heating/cooling, auto startup I have a 98 M3/4 and recently I have noticed that whenever the car is first started in the day, the a/c comes on automatically. Most often I shut it down while driving around town, and the next several times the car is started, the a/c remains off. But there appears to be some cycle, as it often reverts to the first start of the day. Is there a programmable option that will allow you to control the heat (don't think it happened in cold weather)/ac??
