#1. Cure for the Power Blues - from Ron Buchalski

Date: Mon, 01 Oct 2001 04:43:16 From: "Ron Buchalski" <rbuchals@hotmail.com> Subject: Cure for the Power Blues After reading the recent digest exchanges about M3s with apparent loss of performance, and some recommendations about using higher octane fuel, I decided to run a little experiment. So, this weekend, while checking out the PCA club races at Summit Point, I decided to spend some money and filled up my car with 100-octane unleaded fuel. The pumps weren't labeled, but according to http://www.racegas.com, this is a Sunoco product. Anyhow, I took the car out for a little hard driving this evening, and the car is producing alot more power. The rear tires were starting to break loose in second gear, as the car revved through the max torque range (4000-5000 RPMs). (Car is equipped with the Eurosport/JimC intake, Euro HFM, chip). The cars pulls strong, all the way to the 7000 RPM redline. I've always used 93 octane fuel in the car, from Amoco, Exxon, Shell, Texaco, or Chevron. I always stay away from off-brand or discount stations (with the one exception of fueling at a WAWA store, and suffering through mild pinging). The car has never felt this strong. My conclusion? Regular pump gas really sucks. Since I also live in one of those metropolitan areas with high ozone levels, our fuels are oxygenated YEAR-ROUND! Years ago, when the only added the oxygenate during the winter months (November-March), my car would run worse during those times, and the fuel mileage would drop 1-2 MPG. Now, the only way around it is to buy fuel in rural PA, WV, or southern VA. It really sucks. Anyhow, for those of you who want to see if your car is suffering from bad gas, go to http://www.racegas.com and find a nearby station that sells 100-octane fuel. Then, prepare to spend alot of money for a tank of gas (I paid $65!!!). It's an expensive experiment, but it proved that there's nothing wrong with the car. It's the lousy fuel! -rb _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp

Date: Mon, 1 Oct 2001 14:02:05 EDT From: Brent95M3@aol.com Subject: Re: Want a fast sports coupe? As much as i like my M3, if I could justify spending $227,000 on a car, I dont think my money would go to a "suped up" M3. I can't see how people would pay that much for a BMW when Ferrari offers the 360 and 550 Maranello. I think this car may suffer the same fate as the Acura NSX. People paying that much for a car want an "exotic." As a result, Acura actually loses money now on the NSX and only continues to produce it to keep it as their "showcar." #7. FREE rear rotors - SF Bay Area - from Jim Bassett

Date: Mon, 01 Oct 2001 11:53:51 -0700 From: Jim Bassett <jimbassett@home.com> Subject: FREE rear rotors - SF Bay Area Hello Bay Area people, I've got a set of drilled & slotted rear rotors that are free for the taking (or I can deliver in a reasonable distance). I was give a full set, F & R, by my mechanic Bill Arnold. I used the fronts as track rotors, but have no intention of using the rears. They're in good condition, look like they've barely been used (Bill took them off another of his customer's M3s). They've been in my garage most of this year, so if no one wants then, I'm tossing them out. Cheers, Jim Bassett 1998 M3/4

Based on some previous articles, etc. I don't think the market for that car is the street driven customer any more than it is for the Porsche GTR and Corvette GTR versions. It's being done entirely for homologation and may never sell one to the public, only other racers. #10. [E36M3] Exhaust - from Robert Liu

Date: Mon, 1 Oct 2001 12:53:14 -0700 (PDT) From: Robert Liu <bob_a_liu@yahoo.com> Subject: [E36M3] Exhaust I have one of Bob Tunnell's flowmaster exhaust systems. The light throttle droning is getting very annoying, so I'm looking for a solution. Anyone with any suggestions? I'm thinking either adding a resonator, changing the muffler for a deltaflow or magnaflow, or just getting a borla catback or a 96+ OEM catback. Anyone with a 96+ OEM catback muffler they'd like to get rid of? I was told that it has significantly larger diameter piping than my 95 OEM catback. Thanks, Bob ===== ------------------------------------------------------------ Robert Liu bob_a_liu@yahoo.com ICQ# 22765210 __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
