#1. [E36M3] M3 cold braking steering wheel shake - from Colin_S_Whelan@rrfc.raytheon.com

After the parking the car for > 8hrs, I get a slight shimmy if I immediately take it up to highway speed and it only lasts for the first mile or two and then it goes away completely. I've always attributed it to flat spots on the tires or something screwy, since I have since swapped rotors and inspected ball joints and the problem remains. Any ideas or do they all do this? Thanks, Colin '98 M3 (35K, been doing it since I bought it at 26K) '93 325is (sold, but used to do it too!)

When I got mine from SPP- mating connectors were included in the factory package. I would go back to your supplier and demand mating connectors. If you are not successful I have the p/n somewhere but I have no idea where to get them. With Tunnell's exhaust, I have no problem with the noise at WOT. I wanted a louder exhaust so I could tell when to shift without looking at the tach all the time. The OEM unit was just too quiet! But, the droning on the highway with Tunnell's exhaust gives me headaches after 2+ hours. I'm leaning towards getting a ES tuning exhuast right now. Does anyone have any comments regarding droning with the ES? Thanks! I'll have to look it up at home if you're interested. The round connectors go for $9 each and the pins are like $1 each. See, my car was rear-ended <tear> and it bent the tips, so I had their insurance company replace the exhaust. The first one I had was one of the early ones that came out. It was VERY tight against the body and the metal that made up the flanges (which bolt to the cat) was deteriorating. When it was replaced, I gave the old one to a friend who used it for another year or so before giving it to another friend who still has it on his car. My second one was clearly a tweaked design. It fit much better. However, it did turn up to have some problems too. The stainless steel of the muffler itself is very thin. The little metal bar stock that is bent into the shape of a "7" and bolts into the hangers started to tear the stainless steel. It appears that the hangers are welded to the stainless steel only and not the internal metal of the muffler. This makes for a pretty weak connection. When one side started to tear the stainless steel, I had it re-welded at a local shop. About 8 months later, the other side started to tear too. This time, I had my local wrench take a bracket from some other BMW (don't remember which one and weld it on. This bracket) has a band that wraps around the entire muffler. IT WON"T BE TEARING AGAIN! All that being said, I like the ES Tuning exhaust sound and am not displeased with my purchase. Yea, it would be nice if it was designed better, but when I bought it I think I paid like $300 for it. Check the prices of the alternatives. They are no where near that price. As far as sound goes, it does droan if you run below 2500 rpm or so. Anything above that is sweet, sweet melodies. Of course, that's just my opinion. #10. Koni and/or C/O help needed. - from Birkhead, Rob

Date: Tue, 2 Oct 2001 09:25:46 -0700 From: "Birkhead, Rob" <rbirkhead@bb.directv.com> Subject: Koni and/or C/O help needed. I just finished installing my Koni DA C/O kit and I am concerned about the front shocks. The top of the shock (where the adjuster is) hits against the inner lip of shock tower plates at times. I am using the stock 96+ guides but swapped L->R. Does anyone else have a similar problem? Can those of you with either Konis or coil-over kits comment on how high the top of your front shocks stick up? I am hoping it really has me worried. The contact is light but I can hear the rattle frequently. Thanks in advance. Rob B. 95 M3
