They do heat up the intake charge, which can be good if you live where it gets really cold. An oil drain plug screws nicely in the head fitting, plug the other end with a plug and hose clamp. #2. Aftermarket Exhaust Installation (UUC) - from Dorffer, Rich

Date: Thu, 4 Oct 2001 15:29:03 -0400 From: "Dorffer, Rich" <RDORFFER@CleIndians.com> Subject: Aftermarket Exhaust Installation (UUC) Just curious what tips anyone may have when installing an aftermarket exhaust (specifically UUC's exhaust). Should I buy new hangers, clamps or any other items? I recall it being necessary to reverse the exhaust hangers (or something like this) in order to get the UUC exhaust properly centered in the rear diffuser. Is this correct? Any thoughts or tips would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Best regards, Rich

They are something like $25 each. You should also get new self locking nuts and a new asbestos free gasket (these crush when you tighten everything down). The gasket is something like $5. #5. 95 E36 M3 power loss update - from Robert S. Hatrak II
Top
Date: Thu, 4 Oct 2001 13:13:33 -0700 From: "Robert S. Hatrak II" <rob@hatrak.com> Subject: 95 E36 M3 power loss update Some of you may recall that I was bothered by the lack of power my M3 has had in the last year or so. Here's an update to the saga: 1. For the last three oil changes, I didn't reset the service lights. The other night, I finally decided to reset them. They are just for display purposes, right? Maybe not. Once reset, the car seemed noticeably more "alive." Could my car have backed the timing down or something, thinking "this dude is never going to change his oil, I have to do something to protect myself!"? 2. Then, yesterday my car was in the shop for some new engine mounts. I mentioned to the tech that I'm going to try the Bilstein engine flush. He showed me their brand new BG setup that he said did basically the same thing. With the intake open, and the throttle body exposed, this kit blows a mist of engine cleaner into the engine while it is running. It takes about 30 minutes for the can to exhaust itself. The kit also includes a can of stuff for the fuel tank. I don't want to sound dramatic or anything, but the difference it made in the car is unbelievable. The car has power everywhere now! Much smoother, faster, etc. I know the tank is still full of the cleaner, so I assume it will only get better. This BG process is different from the old one where you would hook up a can of stuff, and wait for the engine to die. This process doesn't kill the engine, produced no major exhaust smoke, etc. I highly recommend this to everyone with a high mileage car. Rob

When I noticed that they were located in nearby Gaithersburg, I decided to stop in today. =20 Dado was nice, discussing some options for my car and showing me his Dakar Yellow 99 M3. I was just wondering if anyone had any experiences with this shop. And thanks for your time, Dado =20 Second question, I have decided to add an intake to my M3. Now the big question, my car is already shark-injected and I am debating the Conforti vs. Dinan vs. ECIS intake. Are they more or less comparable? I've been quoted a price for the ECIS about $100 less than the others, is there any benefit to the other vs. ECIS?=20 =20 Thanks in advance for your help =20 Rich Ehrlich Alpine White 1998 M3=20

#9. from Redline MTL to Mobil 1 ATF - from Chris Papademetrious

Date: Thu, 04 Oct 2001 17:32:11 -0400 From: Chris Papademetrious <chrispitude@yahoo.com> Subject: from Redline MTL to Mobil 1 ATF Well, with the help of a buddy, I managed to tune up my M3 a bit. Background: it's a 95 with 110k miles, due for Inspection II. I will still let a BMW shop go through it, but I wanted to try some of the easy things myself to see how they went. So far we've replaced the O2 sensor, the fuel filter, the spark plugs, and the transmission juice. The O2 sensor was the hardest part, since I tried an O2 socket first to *remove* the sensor, resulting in the socket opening up and almost totally rounding off the sensor! Luckily there was enough left for a regular 6pt socket to grab ahold of, and we got it out of there. (Persuading *anything* with a 30" 1/2"-drive breaker bar is fun. :) Anyway, so we also switched the transmission over from its previous bath of Redline MTL to Mobil 1 synthetic ATF. I just wanted to confirm what others have said here - the improvement in shift quality is very noticeable. I have one of the very first BLiSS short-shift kits from Ben Liaw, before the days of ERK (effort-reducing kits), so the short-shifter tends to magnify any notchiness in the transmission. Even my friend, whose primary complaint with my car has been the notchy transmission, was quite impressed that just changing fluid could have that much effect. For anyone considering making the jump to Mobil 1 ATF, go for it. You won't be sorry. - Chris P.S. I'm now getting nearly 30mpg on the highway. Not bad for a 110k mile drivetrain!

I get 25mph rock solid on long trips on the freeway. Overall I average 20mpg in my day to day. Anyone experience the same thing? Most I have gotten out of one tank of gas is 400 miles.
