A friend has some 17" wheels off of his 2000 E46, that he's willing to let me make use of. They are the 17" version of the wheel pictured here: http://bmw.vfive.com/~mark/e46/gallery/gfx/e46_3er_1.jpg They originally had 225/45/17 tires on them. I was thinking of using them to mount up some treaded track tires for rainy track days. Is the offset for E36 and E46 the same? Anybody using E46 wheels successfully on modified E36M3's (I have bilstein shocks and H&R springs)? Any idea what the rim width is, as I haven't seen them in person yet? Thanks, Jeremy Lucas Delaware, OH

I don't know how the hell you guys do this. I see people write that they get high mileage but I always assume people are lying. But now I'm beginning to wonder??? I always have to fill my tank at 250 miles usually taking about 15-15.5 gallons!! What the f#%$@^&?? Maybe I have a special car that has a bigger appetite? I think Mark Radelow and I have about the same gas mileage. hmmm Maybe it's the crappy gas here in San Diego. Ohh maybe that explains why we are still paying $2.00/gallon/supreme/91octane. What do you guys pay? $5.00/gallon???? But now I'm about there with you. I'm sure it's driving style, as my wife will easily get 3-4 more miles per gallon in the same car on a long trip. I don't really know how to improve it, but then again, I don't really care. It sure is fun to get low MPGs. ;-) -p

About 6 months ago I tried an experiment where I would up shift between 2-3k to try and save gas. I was really ginger with the gas pedal. I got an extra 3mpg. "THATS IT??!!!", I said, "Screw this I'm driving like I normally do!" Even if I'm on the hwy cruising at 70 I don't think I could get more than 22. And that's a HUGE maybe. And I service my car every 2500 miles doing majors every 12-15k miles. steve At 10:57 AM 10/5/01 -0500, Peter Guagenti wrote: >Date: Fri, 05 Oct 2001 08:56:03 +0000 >From: Peter Guagenti <peter@guagenti.com> >Subject: Re: [E36M3] mileage... > >I'm about there with you. I haven't looked into anything other than the t-shirt dye they sell at wal-mart, but my basic plan was to remove the shelf from the car, clean it up a little, and shoot it with the dye in a spray bottle. Hopefully that will result in even coverage (no splotches). Also, for those of you with newer cars that spend a good bit of the day parked outside, for a couple of years I covered the parcel shelf with a towel that I cut to fit. It worked great and looked nice, but I somehow misplaced it when I was detailing one time and never got around to replacing it. Its amazing how fast that fabric will fade once its unprotected. I'm paying $1.65 or so for premium in MD. Kevin 97 M3 very happy with gas mileage
