But then, I also have a Supercharger. I also am approaching 25K miles on my original set of Pilot Sports...That's actual driving...I change them over to winters each December through March. It looks like I'll get near 30K actual miles on the rears before I need replacing..As to driving style, I usually shift gears between 3500 and 4500 rpms, but frequently exceend 5500 rpms....As for rubber, I only occasionally burn it, which used to be a more frequent occurence. Since my clutch is on its latter half of life, I take it a bit easier on that aspect these days....The car, with 33K miles is running absolutely incredibly well....Since I got the SC about 25K miles ago, Ive had zero problems, zero nagging issues, and zero annoyances...Its really been great. I dont even miss not having an E46 :--) --------------------------------------------------------- Paul Elliott '99 White M3; < 35K miles; Dinan stage II sc kit; Rotex pads; Stygar SS and Clutch Stop; Sound by Polk, Excelon, JLAudio

Dido, I can do the same in my '97. Maybe that was a fine engine year ;-)) Then again, I think I get about 2mpg when I autox...but I don't care ;-)) I'll tell you what, coming home on the hwy from an autox I played some games with the cruise control and watched the computer calculate the mpg. At around 55mph I got the best mileage, anything above and the mpg started going down. Experiment over, 55 is for when I'm so old I can't squeeze the gas pedal hard enough, for now it's 70mph and about 24mpg, 22mpg with AC on! Date: Fri, 5 Oct 2001 22:42:32 -0400 From: "Bill P" <casanova@yorkhost.com> Subject: Re: [E36M3] mileage... And Premium Gas Best I got was 415 miles with the cruise set at 80 or so, on a full tank going down I-95 to Florida. That is about 25 mpg. Now I get about 250 - 275 miles out of a tank city/Hwy driving. I guess that Supercharger eats some gas. Well I only paid $1.59 for Sunoco Ultra 94. I paid $1.18 for regular 87 Octane for my Montero last week. Prices are pretty nice here in PA. Has anyone read the article in Car&Driver about Premium gas. It seems that you get some HP with better gas. I can attest that my car runs much better with Sunoco 94 then with other High Grade stuff (93). This makes me wonder if all the other Premium Gas labled at 93 is realy 93 octane. You can feel the difference from a tank of say Texaco 93 to Sunoco 94. From what I understand, here in PA, NJ, NY, MD, DL, area that Sunoco and Amaco are the best fuels. Has anyone noticed the same thing with different premium brands. Bill P PS The Sunoco 100 Octane realy makes my car scream. But the approx $5.00 a gallon price is way steep. PSS Stay away from the "cheap" premium gas from like Sheetz, 7-Eleven and other Mini-Markets. That stuff is horrible.

#8. Transmission Replacement??!! - from Roy Kao
Top
Date: Sat, 06 Oct 2001 00:18:59 -0400 From: "Roy Kao" <bimmerphile@hotmail.com> Subject: Transmission Replacement??!! I brought my car in to the dealer for an Inspection I this morning and to have them look into an occasional stiff shifter out of third gear. The result of their investigation was shocking to say the least: they now have a request in to BMW Canada to see if they can get me a replacement transmission! I have had this problem for quite some time and other than some annoyance at times, I never expected an ill transmission. Apparently, the technician drained the transmission fluid and found metal shaving in the fluid. I am not a hard shifter and can count on one hand the number of times I've ground a gear. The car has just under 50,000 miles on the odometer and is very regularly maintained. Have other digesters experienced this? I do have a short shift, an adaptation of the M Roadster/Coupe shifter and the car does go to driving schools quite regularly. I think the policy is for BMW Canada to provide a refurbished transmission, if they give the dealer the go-ahead. The lease is coming up in May of '02 and I was considering buying the car out instead of taking delivery of an E46 M3 I have on order but this is scaring me a bit. Any input from fellow digesters would be greatly appreciated!!
