Hi Paul, Thanks for the input. I did 3 runs. 0-60 averaged 5.8 secs. The 5.6 was with a really good launch. I was skeptical about the accuracy of the GTECH, since the horsepower measurements were way off.. around 175 hp at the wheels (1st gear). I was assuming 3600 lbs for the car with two passengers. I wanted to be able to quantify (I know it won't be absolute) the difference when I add the JC Euro HFM. > BTW, what kind of > Mazda were you driving to a 5.0 0-60? A 94 Miata, with aftermarket turbo. It has no traction in 1st gear, or else it should be in the mid 4's. 300 hp and 2400 lbs is a good combination! Starting in 98 BMW changed the rear subframe to improve triangulation of the swaybar mount tabs, making them stronger. Are they strong enough? Don't know, but they're better than they used to be. In fact, we could create an AIM chat room link on Suzy's website, and any AIM user can use it. For more details, check out: http://www.aol.com/aim/remote.html If you have AIM, put the following URL (replace 'screenname' with your AIM userid) into your browser and check it out: aim:gochat?roomname=screenname+chat This will open your own personal chat room. As an alternative, the chat room could be an AIM user called E36M3, or BMW-M.net. This would require Suzy (or somebody) to activate such an AIM screenname. Does it look interesting? -rb _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp

#6. BEGI M3 Turbo (Was "I thought I'd Pass this on") - from Matt Henson

Date: Wed, 10 Oct 2001 07:54:07 -0700 (PDT) From: Matt Henson <hensonator@yahoo.com> Subject: BEGI M3 Turbo (Was "I thought I'd Pass this on") I spoke with Corky about the kit a few months ago. He was having problems with getting stable operation on the M3 with the FMU. He said that he was going to look at working with Garett Lim or one of the other BMW tuners so I would assume that he has done this by now. I think that Lim supplies AA with their software these days. He is well respected in the Porsche tuning community so I assume that he's done a good job with the BMWs as well. I'm sure he's no JimC but, then, who is? When it comes to turbo mechanicals, tooling, etc, Corky is King - much better than AA. But, he admittedly isn't an expert on computer controls. This isn't necessarily a bad thing since he's getting help. Too bad Karl at AA took so long to realize that he also doesn't know bunk about EFI. -Matt --- Mel Silva <melsilva@mindspring.com> wrote: > Date: Wed, 10 Oct 2001 09:28:04 -0500 > From: "Mel Silva" <melsilva@mindspring.com> > Subject: RE: [E36M3] re: Thought I would pass this > on... > > Reading Corky's article suggests that he is using a > redesigned, rising rate > FMU and leaving the ECU alone, but his article only > addressed OBDI cars. #7. Swaybar Tab reinforcement on 99 M3? + more - from nabli@attglobal.net
Top
Date: Wed, 10 Oct 2001 11:16:27 -0400 From: nabli@attglobal.net Subject: Swaybar Tab reinforcement on 99 M3? + more For the most part if you're just adding sway bars then you are probably ok with the stock setup. If however, you plan to add track tires and other suspension mods such as springs etc... then you should definitely have them reinforced. The more g-forces the more likely it is that you will have a problem with the tabs. This past weekend, at Pocono, I had the opportunity to try several different cars on a couple of runs. Wayne Miller was nice enough to let me take a run (or spin) with his car. He has camber plates, Khumos, UUC sway bars, euro springs and aftermarket (Koni i think) shocks. Now i see why he ended up bending and/or ripping his rear sway bar tabs at Summit. Compared to my car, which is basically stock except for Eibach sway bars, hi car handles extremely well and to a different degree. Hence, the g-forces were much higher than in my car. Take it for what it's worth. On a side note, I also had the opportunity run an AA turbo stage II car. A HELL of a lot of power to say the least. Can easily out accelerate an E46 M3 - which was tested of course but I was not there. I believe he has Konis and some aftermarket springs, stock sway bars, and 18s with S-03s. This car was scary to drive!!! Did not feel well balanced at all! Moral of the story: Given the few recent posts about turbos etc..., i HIGHLY recommend that you take into account your suspension AND tires. This car should have had a much better suspension to match that power/torque and most of all a set of track tires. Don't forget the rest of the car! BTW, he had the new pf-97s so the braking was fine for the most part. Cheers, Jim E. Jason, I don't believe the 99's are reinforced any better than the rest. On my stock-suspended 99 (37k miles), mine are starting to show cracks. Others have reported broken tabs much earlier. I think the consensus is to reinforce if you're just doing swaybars (as opposed to springs and shocks, in which case it's your choice). -Chris --- E36M3 <e36m3@bmw-m.net> wrote: > Date: Tue, 9 Oct 2001 16:50:25 -0700 > From: "Jason Sarich" <sarich_m3@prontomail.com> > Subject: Swaybar Tab reinforcement on 99 M3? > > Hello, > > I recall someone stating that it was not necessary > to weld > reinforcement kits on 99 M3's (for installing bigger > sway > bars) because BMW recognized the weak construction > on prior > years. Everyone reveres him. Private customers can rent him out to create custom chips for a steep fee, but he's very hard to get ahold of as he's in high demand. Obviously I can't comment on his BMW experience, but he has a very good reputation for being thorough and knowledgeable. I don't think he'd do a half-assed job on any kind of car. - reid > I spoke with Corky about the kit a few months ago. He > was having problems with getting stable operation on > the M3 with the FMU.
