I installed Ron Stygar's clutch pedal. It eliminated the slop and squeaking, only to have a new squeak appear a month later. It was the spring assembly, I think from the two halves of the shaft over which the spring is mounted. I hit it with some spray white lithium grease, and I've been squeak free for 3 months now. Best of luck. I'm no automotive engineer, but it seems to me that RSM's could not affect ride height unless the shocks themselves exert a spring force, like Bilsteins containing pressurized fluid. So, if you are running stock shocks, my guess is that the slight ride height change is not from the rsm's. Perhaps you have more gas in the car than when you took your original measurements? ----- Original Message ----- From: The Buch <the_buch@telus.net> To: E36M3 <e36m3@bmw-m.net> Sent: Sunday, October 14, 2001 1:08 PM Subject: [E36M3] E46 RSM Upgrade > Date: Sun, 14 Oct 2001 10:58:23 -0700 > From: The Buch <the_buch@telus.net> > Subject: E46 RSM Upgrade > > Just had this done, and noticed while washing the car that it sits about > 5mm (1/4 in) lower at the back. #6. Caliper Dust Boot - from Jeremy Lucas

Date: Sun, 14 Oct 2001 19:56:03 -0400 From: "Jeremy Lucas" <jlucas@columbus.rr.com> Subject: Caliper Dust Boot When removing my track pads tonight, after what will probably be my last track day this year, I noticed that one of the caliper dust boots has come about half out of the caliper due to piston extension as the pads have worn. The boot does not appear to be torn simply unseated but there is already brake dust and other contaminants past it and on the piston, so I'm planning on doing a rebuild. I've looked at the list archives and tech procedure page so I've got all the info on rebuilding the calipers, but I still have a couple of questions: 1) Once I remove the brake line from the caliper, what is the size of the vacuum cap (see tech procedure page, http://www.bmw-m.net/TechProc/caliper.htm item #9) needed to successfully plug up the brake line and prevent further brake fluid leaking? How long can I leave it in this condition and reasonably expect fluid to be retained? I ask because I will probably take the calipers to the shop at my work, and do the rebuild there to use the air compressor, etc... 2) I'm assuming there are 2 crush washers on either side of the brake line (one on the caliper body side, one on the banjo bolt side). Anybody know that size? BMW p/n? Does the BMW crush washer work with aftermarket SS lines? Thanks in advance, Jeremy Lucas Delaware, OH 95 M3

It's an aluminum oil pan baffle of their own make, and at $200 a hell of a lot cheaper than the LTW GT pan. Anyone have any words about this item? Just idle curiousity, for now. andy r. 98 m3/2

You can either clean it in kerosene (definitely not my choice) or warm soapy water. Using the latter, ITG says not to leave it soak. Just put some warm water and dishwashing liquid in a bucket, immerse the filter and work in the liquid by hand until clean, then rinse in water and allow to air dry. Drying takes a while. Neil 96 M3
