#2. HVAC/Squeak - from Carl Harris Sewell

Date: Mon, 15 Oct 2001 12:14:42 -0400 From: "Carl Harris Sewell" <jzy308@adelphia.net> Subject: HVAC/Squeak I have a 98 M3/4 w/about 32,000 miles. In the last several months, whenever the car is started, the heater/ac automatically comes on, IF the car has been shut off for over 20 min. Makes no diff if the heat/ac was not on when the ignition was turned off. Is this some kind of software glitch? Anybody else have any experience? AND, there is a slight squeak when the steering wheel is turned, slowly, at low speeds, especially to the left. Seems I saw a thread on this within the last several months. Any suggestions? many thanks. Carl Harris Sewell 1965 Lewis Mtn Rd Charlottesville VA 22903-2436 434.244.2752

I installed Ron Stygar's clutch pedal. It eliminated the slop and squeaking, only to have a new squeak appear a month later. It was the spring assembly, I think from the two halves of the shaft over which the spring is mounted. I hit it with some spray white lithium grease, and I've been squeak free for 3 months now. Best of luck. Jeff Abel 97 M3/4

I have one in my ITS race car. Works just fine, so far as I know (can't see inside while driving). Never had a problem under continual racing for 3 years. Since the LTW pan isn't legal, this is the best option. Dan S.

Date: Mon, 15 Oct 2001 10:09:40 US/Pacific From: peter@guagenti.com Subject: FS: Schroth Harnesses w/ Extras FS: Pair of Schroth Rallye 4 Harnesses (Black) with extras These are 4-point harnesses with a quick-release so you can pull them off of your seats when not in use. Both DS and PS belts, plus a pair of Scroth Harness Pads, and bolts to fit the E36 seats. I pulled them out and replaced them with 5-point racing harnesses to go along with my roll bar. These harnesses will fit any car, but I've already gone to the trouble to bend the tabs to fit the E36 seats and the E36 mounting bolts are included. Very easy to install, and Jim B. has a great write up on the installation on his site. These sell for about $350 for the pair, asking $200 including shipping anywhere in the US. -peterg ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This message was sent using HiSpeed Technologies Webmail. http://www.hispeed.com

Sounds like the 'hot' ticket for hot track days, rather than shelling out $5/gal for racing fuel at the track. Jeff Abel 97 M3/4

#10. Kumho Victoracers - to shave or not to shave? - from jim.bassett@alloptic.com
Top
Date: Mon, 15 Oct 2001 12:44:38 -0700 From: jim.bassett@alloptic.com Subject: Kumho Victoracers - to shave or not to shave? Hi All, I'm thinking of running Kumho Victoracers as my next track/autox tire, departing from the Toyo RA-1 I've been using. I've run the Toyos at full tread-depth, but wondering what the feeling is for shaving the Kumhos for drivers school/open track events? (My main reason for possibly switching, FYI, is price. The Kumho's are cheaper than the Toyos, but I stiil need to calculate shipping costs.) Thanks for your feedback, Jim Bassett 1998 M3/4 - needs new track shoes
