#1. Euro Light Questions - from Rich

Date: Wed, 17 Oct 2001 11:22:20 -0400 From: "Rich" <rehrlich98m3@mindspring.com> Subject: Euro Light Questions Having just installed the lights, I love how much brighter they are. Most of my regular driving is in the city and the Eurolights make it even easier to see, even around the street lights. Thanks for all the advice I got from everyone. Anyway, I have a few questions: 1. Yesterday, after the first rain, the exterior lenses fogged big time. Is there anyway to minimize, prevent this? 2. Besides manually turning on the lights each time I drive, is there someway to activate the "city/parking" lights automatically? 3. Why do my new brights scare people? Seriously, the Euro brights are definitely set to "stun". Rich Ehrlich Alpine White 1998 M3

#2. Euro Headlight protection - from Dorffer, Rich

IIRC, all use the 3M Scot cal product which is a very good product. I have bought both precut and bulk product from Xpel. Precut saves time and effort and is good to use your first time taking one potentially difficult item out of the mix. Bavarian Scotchcal, Griot's Garage and others also carry the stuff now but I believe they all charge more. I am sure many of you have done this. Where do you guys get the protection kit from? I called Turner, Bavarian, they don't have the pre-cut sheet for Euro headlights. Do I have to settle with cutting the sheet myself? Another question, after installing the protection kit, do you guys experience any loss of lumination? TIA Jay

I wish there were CART races on Speedvision but with the withdrawal of major manufacturers, maybe there won't be a CART series in a couple years. On a better note, hopefully this will spawn a bunch of small oval tracks leaving the tracks with turns available for open lapping days and more clubs being able to book them. However, will there be a demise of the venerable tracks losing business to the ovals? This is far fetched but I'd hate to see the day that a CCA driver's school is held at an oval b/c the tracks have gone belly up. And then to top it all off, I won't be able to watch something decent on tv. NASCAR ain't bad but I could only watch the first and last 5 laps, which doesn't do it for me so I just don't watch. I assume it serves some aerodynamic function diverting air away from the tire... is this correct? John

The euro lights are not sealed and there might have been some moisture in there to begin with. The moisture will slowly leave the housing. Date: Wed, 17 Oct 2001 09:16:24 US/Pacific From: peter@guagenti.com Subject: FS: B&B Tri-Flo Exhaust for M3/328/325/323 I'm selling the B&B Tri-Flo exhaust off of my '95 M3. It's stainless steel with DTM tips. B&B claims 10hp/15lbft. torque improvement over stock. B&B sells this exhaust for $950, I'm asking $300 plus shipping. Local pick-up in the SF Bay Area can be arranged. -peterg ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This message was sent using HiSpeed Technologies Webmail. http://www.hispeed.com

I currently have EBC reds, and rotors with 154,000 miles. The school is at CMP in Kershaw, SC, which is supposedly hard on brakes. I'm leaning towards getting the Carbotech Panther Plus and a set of brembos. Any good/bad experiences with these pads? How 'bout EBC reds? Anyone with experience running at the CMP track? #9. [E36M3] really loud tires? - from Jeff_Wingstrom@jackmorton.com

Date: Wed, 17 Oct 2001 10:48:23 -0500 From: Jeff_Wingstrom@jackmorton.com Subject: [E36M3] really loud tires? Gruppe, In a quest to diagnose a shimmy I'm feeling in my steering wheel, I swapped in my winter rims/tires this weekend. Removed the stock 10 spoke wheels wearing their AVS Sports (maybe 12K miles on these), put on my 16" replica contours wearing Blizzak MZ-01's. I was immediately struck by how much quieter the snow tires are. Not just quieter, I mean they're silent. Obviously the rubber is much softer, but what I'm getting at here is, could there be something wrong with the AVS Sports? They're REALLY loud compared to the Blizzaks. Is tire noise ever a sign of worn or defective tires? Wondering, because having the summer wheels rebalanced and getting an alignment had no effect on the shimmy problem, but the symptoms are gone with the snows mounted. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks! -Jeff '97, stock (until my ECIS intake arrives on Friday, whoohoo!)

Tom, you don't need to mess with the sunglass holder. Just pull up the shift boot and push the switch up through the console. If the modification is still present, you most likely have a loose connection somewhere. I added this to my car nearly two years ago and it has worked perfectly ever since then. I also did this for Jennifer Catchpole (a fellow Tarheel M3 pilot for those of you who don't know the name) when I saw she had a piece of masking tape on her steering wheel that said 'ASC OFF'. Only takes about 5 minutes once you have the capacitor and resistor soldered together and is a nicer solution than haphazard notes on the steering wheel. Is tire noise ever a sign of worn or defective > tires? Kinda. Modern 'Y' shaped tire treads they have become so popular these days tend to get pretty noise at the end of their tread life. Yoko AVS Sports and Bridgestone RE730s come to mind. > Wondering, because having the summer wheels rebalanced and > getting an alignment had no effect on the shimmy problem, > but the symptoms are gone with the snows mounted. A bent wheel will cause all sorts of interesting vibrations that will not go away with re-balancing/re-alignment. Incidentally, stock 17" wheels bent if you look at them funny. And those are the wheels that are causing your shimmy problems. Where is the shimmy coming from, front or back? If you can isolate it to one end of the car, try swapping your wheels front<->back and see if the shimmy moves with the wheels. Inspect the wheels as you are mounting them and chances are one of them is bent. Probably on the inside if you haven't noticed it yet. alex f '95 M3
