Getting set for Buttonwillow next Monday and I'm trying to figure out the best way to stop my armrest from flying into my arm during hard breaking. I was just going to head down and buy a small bungee cord to strap between the seatback nets, but any other options are welcome. How hard is it to temporarily remove the armrest? I only use it on extremely long and boring drives. Otherwise, it never gets used so removal doesn't bother me much. Also, my ASC light hasn't worked for months. The ASC itself works fine, it's just the light that never works. Therefore, I often forget if I've turned it off or not and I don't want to deal with that at the track. How would one go about disabling or disconnecting the ASC aside from the button? At least I know the orange light won't become annoying. ;) Thanks! It was the first time I was signed off and I guess the instructor's elbow was always preventing the armrest from flopping down. When I was in the car alone, the armrest would get in the way under hard braking. To remove, you have to pop off the ash collector, remove the two plastic screws, remove the rear ashtray, pry off the rear cover of the center console. If you use your fingers to wedge into under the leading edges, then pull the pieces outwards, the whole cover tilts out. Then you simply pull out the plugs holding the rear armrest in place and voila...remove the arm rest. > Also, my ASC light hasn't worked for months. There is in fact a 15-40 weight Mobil 1 oil, though it is marketed primarily to beemers, not bimmers. My local WalMart has started carrying the 15w-40 Mobil 1 oil at $6+/quart. That's compared to $4+/quart for more common Mobil 1 weights with a few cameo appearances of $15 5-quart jugs. alex f '95 M3 with 15w-50 Mobil 1 year around down south in TX

A thicker oil will reduce it at the expense of power, milege and wear. You can overfill the oil pan by at least 0.5Q, I think some people overfill by 1Q and that's fine. By doing this you can increase your fill period to a few months. We really should be checking our oil every couple weeks. It's just part of owning a high performance car. A lot of Porsches use 1Q/1000 miles and that's considered normal. -Matt --- Colin_S_Whelan@rrfc.raytheon.com wrote: > Date: Tue, 30 Oct 2001 10:29:13 -0500 > From: Colin_S_Whelan@rrfc.raytheon.com > Subject: [E36M3] Recommended Oils > > > Hi everyone, > > I've noticed a bit of oil consumption (3/4 qt in > 2500 miles) using Mobil 1 > 10W-30 synthetic over the past 4 months. <snip> > I was wondering if you guys had any recommendations. > > Thanks, > Colin > '98 M3 (JC intake+software, X-brace, Euro rotors..) __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yes, that's too thick for winter. Mobil 1 5W-30 works nicely in cold winter climates like yours. > How about Mobil Delvac, which > I think can be found in 15W-40, but is this synthetic? Dunno. #8. HVAC controls backlit? - from Carl Stern

Date: Tue, 30 Oct 2001 15:09:40 -0700 From: Carl Stern <carl.stern@xilinx.com> Subject: HVAC controls backlit? With the changeover to Daylight Standard Time, I just noticed that my heater/AC controls are not lighted. Either the bulbs just burned out, or I never noticed it before. I just bought my car in May, so it is possible haven't done enough night driving yet where I needed to change settings. This is a 95, with the manual rotary controls. Which is it, are they normally lit up with the interior dash lights or are they dark? The little buttons have lights, but the temp and vent position knobs are dark. Thanks, Carl Stern 95 M3 16k stock, 3 track days
