I walked into my local dealer about a month ago, asked for the European rotors, they drilled down into the parts (they had to choose the Euro not US spec car), got the part number, looked it up in some national parts database (there were 20-something of them in stock), ordered them up ($150 each minus 20% CCA discount= $120) and had them less than a week later. I figured with shipping from Los Angeles to Boston, both sources were probably roughly the same price and same delivery time in the end. No warping after two days at NHIS with PF97's (but street tires, now mauled). And, they look cool, too. Until next time... Date: Thu, 01 Nov 2001 09:59:14 EST From: RFKoby@aol.com Subject: FS: E36 / E46 OEM wheels I find myself with an extra set of wheels. These are 16" x 7" OEM wheels from an E46. These will fits E36 and E46 cars, except M cars. These are in good condition, and would make a great set for snow wheels. Asking $600, buy pays shipping. I am located in South Bend, Indiana, and very close to the TireRack. If you are thinking of purchasing a set of snow wheels from the TireRack, let me know who you talk to and I can bring the wheels to them to have the snow tires mounted, and they will ship the wheels to you. contact me privately. bob

#3. driver window has mind of its own, non-retractable seatbelt - from Guillermo Molina

Date: Thu, 01 Nov 2001 10:03:45 -0500 From: "Guillermo Molina" <drwillb@msn.com> Subject: driver window has mind of its own, non-retractable seatbelt Well, my '95 has been pretty much trouble free since I've had it (21 months, now 66k miles) but this weekend the gremlins came out. The driver's window does a little up & down dance whenever the door is shut and some times it stops in the up position and some times it stops in the down position. I checked the microswitch in the latch mechanism and it seems to be working since activating it with the door open makes the window go up and down. Seems to me that the plastic contact area of the switch has worn down to the point where there is intermitent opening/closing of the electrical circuit. So, is there an adjustment or is R&R the way to go? Second gremlin, the passenger side front seatbelt won't retract. My SO pulled the belt all the way out to see if it would catch but no luck. I haven't had a chance to pull things apart yet so I thought I'd get some input before starting. While they are good, I don't like the cupping this tire seems to exhibit. I think these ridges also make the tire loud as it gets old. The sidewalls also seem to be softer so steering response isn't as instant as say the old MXX3s. If money were no object, I'd probably go with S03s for my next set. But I can't justify spending that much and burning them away at driver schools =( So I'm considering the Kumho cheapo street tire for like $100 a pop and a set of Yok A032Rs for the track. Heck, at that price point, that combo is only slightly more expensive than a $250 Pilot Sport. I also don't know if it's premature to use A032Rs for driver schools as I know I still have a lot to learn. However, many have said that the A032Rs are forgiving and they communicate to you with squealing. I wouldn't want to go with R compounds just yet since when you're in over your head, you don't know until it's too late. A032s are fun to practice with on the street. I've used them as summer tires/track tires for the past two seasons and they're great once you get used to the noise. Of course, my dealer thinks my differential is shot whenever my car is in for service. The Yok's are quite forgiving on the track once you get some heat in them, you can really slide the car through corners and be in total control. Also, they are awesome in the rain, even on the street. #7. Rear Shock Tower Fixed! - from morris.michael@adlittle.com

Date: Thu, 1 Nov 2001 11:08:39 -0500 From: morris.michael@adlittle.com Subject: Rear Shock Tower Fixed! Hello List, Thanks to all of you who have given me input to the best route to take to fix my fatigued rear shock tower. It turns out that fatigue was the real cause of the failure, not rust, which I originally thought, the rust just came about because so much paint had been scraped off to expose bare metal. ( Here's the link to pictures of the busted shock towers: http://abwdesign.com/Mike/ ) I took my car to Dick's Autobody in Summerville, MA, per the recommendations of a few list members. Very nice shop. Very nice cars. Very nice people. Very nice work. I am very impressed with their service. They welded in the new piece for around $450.00, painted and undercoated it, and it looks like new. I Installed bilsteins and E46M3 RSM's in the rear this morning. I also saw a 98 (?) M3, silver, 2-door, lux. package, with a roll cage/harness bar, that was just getting the finishing touches from thousands of dollars of body work.... anybody on this list? Pilot MXX3, Bridgestone S02 PP, Yoko A032R and currently run the new Bridgestone S03 PP (not bad for 28 month old car). Overall, the S03 PP is easily my number on choice for an all-around tire right now. Monday will be the first time I get to try the S03s at the track, so I might have different feedback on Tuesday, but for now I think it's money well spent. Thus far, they seem to be the perfect combination of everything I liked in all the other tires combined (minus the 8080Es which had no good qualities that I can think of). ;) Jonathan L. >From: "Darling Christopher Maj AMC/CEXR" < > >Ok, it's time for a new pair of tires. After all this is a bona fide race track right? It's not a road course through downtown or anything. It can't be for the fans, they like the noise. Did people build houses right next door and then try to get the place shut down? Carl Stern

I guess it sounds like the old RSM probably broke and the strut was able to bang around...which ultimately led to the failure of the shock tower.
