So, is there an adjustment or is R&R the way to go? This started happening to my '95 about 3 months ago. It got to the point where the interior light would come on in hard right turns. I think you're right about it being caused by the switch wearing. What I did was wrap a couple of very small "zip" type wire ties around the "post" that the door latch closes on. Make sure that the "zip" thingy is on the bottom of the post. After doing this, at least on my car, the door closes easily, and the window doesn't spazz up and down anymore. I'm guessing the proper fix is to replace the switch, which looks like a bit of a pain. Nice job, making that out of soft plastic, no?

#5. rear shock mounts - from Burgess, Kim L

Date: Fri, 2 Nov 2001 06:17:23 -0800 From: "Burgess, Kim L" <kim.l.burgess@boeing.com> Subject: rear shock mounts I am looking to replace my RSM now before there is a problem. I have seen several references to several fixes on this list. I have read that the E46 RSM (E46M3 RSM??) is a good inexpensive upgrade. I have also seen a Z3 reinforcement plate with the attach bolts welded to the reinforcement plate that allows replacement of the rubber component from the wheel well side. Would there (can it be done) be any benefit from using the Z3 plate (w/studs) in conjunction with the E46 RSM? THANKS klb

But with the trouble involved you may just be better off spending an extra $50 and go for those ground control RSMs. Rob >Date: Fri, 2 Nov 2001 06:17:23 -0800 >From: "Burgess, Kim L" <kim.l.burgess@boeing.com> >Subject: rear shock mounts > >I am looking to replace my RSM now before there is a problem. Pops right out. The only problem now is fixing the studs into the Z3 plate. You need a well qualified welder....I brought a set to a muffler shop and the welds looked like snot. Mike Yaskin I heard is a pretty good guy who knows his stuff. If you are concerned, get a second opinion from another shop. Changing the tensioner is easy, chains are not. I would think they could distinguish between Vanos noise and a rattling timing chain. Get a second opinion, then make your decision. -Jason -------------------- 5 -------------------- Date: Wed, 31 Oct 2001 23:06:46 -0500 From: Chris Papademetrious <chrispitude@yahoo.com> Subject: Help! My M3's not as reliable as I thought... Earlier this week I heard a noise from the engine when it was at a cold idle, so I popped the hood. As I revved the motor a bit at the throttle body, I heard a horrendous marbles-in-the-can sound. I took it to the shop I typically frequent (Bavarian Specialties in King of Prussia, PA) for a quick diagnosis. Mike Yaskin, the shop owner, had a listen and told me within 10 seconds that I needed to replace both timing chains, tensioners, and the valve cover gasket. He wrote me up a quote of $1431 to do this - $1061 in labor (at $68/hr), and $290 in parts. ************************************************************** Digest Commands UNSUBSCRIBE DIGEST - (in subject line) unsubscribes you from the digest. Their web site (www.topnotchauto.com) has been down all of this week. The phone number (770-232-0639) listed on my last invoice and in the online yellow pages has been disconnected. They have made an erroneous charge to my credit card on my last order that needs to be resolved. Plus there is another matter of merchandise return that I also hoped to discuss with them. But if they are gone, I'll have to call my bank about that charge instead. TIA, alex f
