I am still getting some chattering on intake cam side of the motor right where the VANOS is and it's quite annoying. It this a really involved job? I am in Maryland (Baltimore), and am insured under Nationwide. They are raising my rates almost 17%! Are other people experiencing this, or am I getting snowed with this story to cover up a needless rate hike? Thanks for your input. The wheels will drop a couple of more inches if you didn't. Otherwise, I guess you may have to step harder on the hub to get the springs out. Have a second person step on the hub while you yank the springs out. I know it is not the best idea to bend the CV this way but if you don't make a habit of it, there doesn't seem to be any problems. I live in MD and have been with State Farm for 12 or so years. The premium on my 97 M3 did not go up when the policy was renewed for another 6 month period in October. You might shop around for a better deal... a 17% rate increase is hard to justify. USAA raised my rates about $100 a year (I'm in DC) due to the increased number of claims in my area. As an aside, USAA said that for a driver's school only, I am covered for damage. And don't forget the weight savings of a stainless system vs. factory. > UDP(underdrive pullies): noticeable improvement (caveat: controversial mod) I would say that this is a great mod... for non-M E36's. One thing I noticed is it's improvement in getting the engine to rev quicker, something that the non-M cars (like my wife's 328i which has one) really need. > lightened fly: over $1,000 installed, better rev matching, better Much preferred mod over the UDP for an M3. Less driveline loss = better ability to lay a patch. ;-) > Software: marginal, if any, gains Once again, greater improvements with the more mods you do. > Cams: soon to be available, 50+ hp gains, but pricey at around $3k for the I just installed the JimC Schrick Cams/Injectors/Chip in my '95 and it is amazing. The engine has gobs more power all the way to redline, and simply screams at WOT. The kit is only $1500, and the install is about 2 days for a good mechanic. Your idle remains solid, it doesn't hurt the low-end, and at about 6500k -- when the stock cams start to run out of breath -- you get a tangible amount of more power. > Beyond the bolt-ons noted above, you'd have to go with forced induction, > either turbo or blower. Minimum price tag is $5k sans installation. I looked at this too, but it is _very_ spendy, and there are some reliability problems with the various kits. The most well-sorted kit is Dinan's @ ~$8k installed. That's a lot of dough. -p ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This message was sent using HiSpeed Technologies Webmail. http://www.hispeed.com

Date: Tue, 06 Nov 2001 11:53:21 -0800 From: Bob Lenarcik <lenarcik@pacbell.net> Subject: RE: [E36M3] Powerflex bushings Thanks Jeff! I just got off the phone and they have have the front control arm bushings in stock. They are out of the rears. One confusing thing: Powerflex has two types of bushings for the front control arm: std and eccentric for the M3 for increased caster. I don't remember if the E36 M3s comes stock with eccentric bushings. OPMD wasn't sure if I needed the std or eccentric so I got the eccentric since it's an M3 application while the rest apply to all E36s. I don't want to increase caster over stock so did I order the wrong part? - Bob -----Original Message----- From: The Abels [mailto:aAbel@austin.rr.com] Sent: Tuesday, November 06, 2001 10:52 AM To: E36M3 Subject: Re: [E36M3] Powerflex bushings Date: Tue, 6 Nov 2001 12:51:55 -0600 From: "The Abels" <aAbel@austin.rr.com> Subject: Re: [E36M3] Powerflex bushings Bob, Go to www.OPMD.com.
