To a large extent I think it depends on the dealer. I haven't returned mine yet, but the manager at Gault BMW said that my aftermarket toys were fine, strut braces, etc. But they are enthusiasts as well. He's an instructor for Trackmasters and BMW CCC driving schools. Can anyone give me an idea of what I should expect from the OEM shocks on a '99 M3? It has just over 20k miles and feels softer. More lean in the turns, etc. Could the shocks be toast already? I have 5 days at Watkins Glen and 1 at NHIS plus normal driving. Thanks Carey __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Find the one for you at Yahoo! Car is lower by about 1.5 inches, which I think looks great. I have no rubbing issues, either with 235x40 AO32 on LTW wheels or with 245x40 SO3 on Fiske wheels. Sway bars are stock. I usually set the front shocks on full soft for the street and 1 to 2 turns stiffer for track. Rears are forever set at 3/4 turn from full soft. I have GC rear shock mounts. But the real trick is the TC Kline trailing arm bushing. With this change, the car is rock solid on fast sweepers, like 10 at Summit Point. It made a huge difference in confidence. I haven't done anything about camber; I cannot find a solution short of permanent additional neg. camber. For details about this parts, check TC's website at www.tcklineracing.com I drive the car daily and to various DS events on the East Coast. Drives of 8 hours or more are not painful. I do not autocross, so I have no idea how this suspension works in that environment. Turned in my wife's leased Expedition just a couple of month's ago. Process went much more smoothly than I was expecting. Although I had every record of every oil change and service, the inspection guy never asked to see. I had cleaned up and detailed the truck myself, he commented that it was cleaner than most vehicles he sees. Glad I didn't spring for the professional detailing. I too had a couple little dings that he took photo's of with a magnetic ruler stuck on next to the ding. Since they were smaller than a nickel, and no paint was chipped they weren't a problem. Got my full security deposit back and best of all, they never charged me for the 4,500 miles that I was over my mileage limit!! Kurt '95 M3/2 Dinan Chip K & N Looking for exhaust....

When I worked for Jeep the rule of thumb for dents and stuff was if you can cover it with a credit card, don't worry about it. With the interior, reasonable wear and tear is okay, but any major cuts or stains will probably hurt you. You already mentioned tires, so it sounds to me like you're all set. Exhaust port matching between the exhaust header, header gasket, and head. Ceramic coating on the inside & outside of the header. Nothing on the intake side needed. > I have seen little discussion about these mods and my suspicion is that BMW > has done a fairly good job on the development of these castings. What sort > of gains can be had with the head work and manifold coating stated above? 12-14 HP according to the engine guy. If you want another data point, you might ask Will Turner. At the time I had my work done, Ray Korman and Will Turner were racing a team of two burgundy cars with gray accents (328's I think). Those cars had the same work. In addition, they had a crossover added in the exhaust system. I don't have the crossover. > High RPM benefits only for the 3.0L(ECU) not to be realized in the 3.2L(OBII)? I have not seen the graphs. My guess is that opening up the engine and making those sorts of modifications benefit the whole RPM range. That was my intent anyway. Clearly lightening the valve train benefits the whole range. > Who accomplished the work for you? Korman's engine guy, his name escapes me. Cheers, - Skip > > Thanks > Kim Burgess >

It sound like metal hitting metal noise coming some where form the RSM area. It only makes noise when driving on rough road not bump or speed bump. The dealer said that the noise was cause by the sway bar hitting the exhaust due to lower spring (I also have SS exhaust). The noise sound higher up in RSM area rather than from the bottom of the car. Any help will be appreciated.

Date: Tue, 13 Nov 2001 12:04:56 -0500 From: "JUSTIN GERRY" <JGERRY@butchers.com> Subject: RE: [E36M3] Suspension Upgrades A friend and I also recently installed the Bilsteins and combination with the H&R OE Springs (NOT THE SPORT ONES!). The car sits a tiny bit lower in the front. The bump stops have been trimmed. I also installed the X-brace, kmacs, JTD rear bushings, and a upper strut brace. Ride is slightly stiffer than stock. Not bad on long trips, not as good absorbing minor bumps in the road. I'd imagine some lack of dampening on small bumps might be attributed to the stiffer upper mounts front and rear. The stability and handling gains are worth it. The car feels much more collected at higher speeds and does not have the floaty feeling. My OE Boges were pretty soft at 60K as well. -Justin -- '76 02 (Whimsical) (Bilstein HDs) '97 M3 (Orion) (Bilstein Sports) BMW CCA#77056 check out http://users.vei.net/jgerry

#10. Radar Detectors v. Chevrolet Trailblazer - from Dorffer, Rich

Date: Tue, 13 Nov 2001 12:21:22 -0500 From: "Dorffer, Rich" <RDORFFER@CleIndians.com> Subject: Radar Detectors v. Chevrolet Trailblazer I noted this issue on June 4, 2001 (good old archives) in a post I made to the UUC digest when following a new Trailblazer. I suspected the CHMSL for the reasons Mike stated. Quite simply, the fact that Mike responds to these types of issues and supports his products years after any other electronics manufacturer would is just a few more reasons to own a V1. This past week, I tried my V1 in a rented Hyundai Sonata. It falsed laser continually but I am not sure what was causing it for sure. Ended up driving to and from Charleston without the support of the V1 :-( but managed unscathed ;-) Regards, Rich - V1 user for 8 years and used to falses from neon signs (and ricers) as well as the sun light in certain setting/rising conditions. 95 M3 - hardwired for V1 89 325is - hardwired for V1
